Agriculture has always been important for Falköping, and in the urban area is Falköping's Dairy.

Get in

[edit]

By train

[edit]

All trains arrive at Falköping Central. Trains from Gothenburg via Alingsås and Herrljunga usually run every hour. Trains from Skövde also run every hour. Trains from Stockholm via Västerås, Örebro, Hallsberg and Skövde also run regularly. There are also trains from Nässjö via Jönköping.

By car

[edit]

The main roads leading to Falköping are:

  • Highway 47 from Trollhättan via Grästorp and Vara to Falköping.
  • Highway 47 from Oskarshamn via Vetlanda , Nässjö, Jönköping and Mullsjö to Falköping.
  • Highway 25 from Skövde turns into Highway 46 in Borgunda and then goes via Stenstorp to Falköping.
  • Highway 46 from Ulricehamn via Timmele, Blidsberg, Åsarp and Kinnarp to Falköping.
  • Länsväg 184 from Lidköping via Skara to Falköping.

From Gothenburg take the E20 towards Stockholm to turn off onto Highway 47 towards Falköping in Åsenkorset outside Vara. You can also turn off the E20 already in Vårgårda and drive the 181 via Herrljunga and Floby to Gökhem and then the 47 to Falköping.

From Stockholm, you have several routes to choose from. You can take the E4 via Norrköping and Linköping to Jönköping and then take Highway 47 to Falköping. Another alternative is to take the E20 from Stockholm via Södertälje, Strängnäs, Eskilstuna, Arboga, Örebro and Laxå. Where to turn off the E20 is a matter of taste. The nearest road is to turn off the E20 at Hova and take road 200 via Töreboda to Skövde and from Skövde Riksväg 25 and 47 to Falköping. The other alternative is to turn off the E20 outside Mariestad and take Riksväg 26 to Skövde. The third alternative is to turn off the E20 outside Skara and take the 184 to Falköping.

From Oslo, take the E6 to Uddevalla and there Riksväg 44 to Trollhättan and then on the 47 to Falköping.

From Copenhagen, take the E20 over the Öresund Bridge to Malmö and then on via Helsingborg to Gothenburg (see further above). This is the easiest way because you stay on the E20 most of the way. The fastest way, however, is to turn off the E20 at Helsingborg and take the E4 to Jönköping and then the 47 to Falköping. Closer, but not as efficient in time, is to turn off the E20 outside Halmstad and take Highway 26 towards Jönköping to Gislaved and there take Highway 27 towards Borås to Limmared. From Limmared, take the 157 to Ulricehamn and then Highway 46 to Falköping.

By bike

[edit]

Västgötaleden is a cycle path that runs through Falköping and connects the cities in Västergötland. The Sweden Trail also passes a bit outside Falköping.

Get around

[edit]

By bus

[edit]

Falköping's city buses have three lines with regular departure times, which connect Falköpings Central (Falköpings Resecentrum) with the city centre, the hospital, Ållebergsgymnasiet and the external shopping centre, Ållebergs Center. It is also possible to travel by county buses between different parts of the city, but there it is important to keep track of more irregular timetables.

With car

[edit]

As Falköping is quite extensive, many people prefer to drive in the city. The streets closest to Stora Torget in the centre are one-way, but there are a couple of larger parking areas within a couple of hundred meters of Stora Torget. Furthermore, there are some one-way streets around Centralskolan and Stadshuset, as well as in a few isolated places in narrower residential areas.

By taxi

[edit]

The Falköping taxi centre is located at Falköping Central between the station building and Hotell Ranten. Taxi Falköping runs cars and minibuses and has telephone number 0515-100 10.

By bike

[edit]

Getting around by bike is recommended as the city is a bit too wide to be able to walk quickly between the different parts. There are plenty of bike lanes in the city.
