🚀 Excited to share our recent work in #AI4Science for predictive ecotoxicology! 🚀 In today's fast-paced world, the ability to assess the toxicity of chemicals is vital not just for environmental protection but also for boosting economic productivity. Efficiently predicting the harmful effects of chemicals allows industries to make informed decisions, streamline regulatory compliance, and reduce costly in vivo testing. In collaboration with CSIRO’s Environment BU and CSIRO's Data61 as a part of the Spatiotemporal AI portfolio, we have developed and released GRAPE (Graph Neural Networks-enhanced RelAtion Prediction for Ecotoxicology). 🌍 GRAPE uses Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to predict the toxicity of chemicals across various aquatic species, offering a novel and more efficient approach to complement traditional in vivo testing. 🧠 The myth: More data makes an #AI model smarter and therefore more accurate 💪 The truth: It’s not just about data—it’s about #parameters With the around OpenAI’s #GPT4o it might seem that feeding more data into these models makes them smarter, the real game-changer is the number of parameters they have like Meta #Llama 3.1 with 450b parameters 💡 More parameters mean these models can process and understand data in more sophisticated ways, leading to increased accuracy and the appearance of being “smarter.” More parameters = higher trustworthiness, even with more focused data like the proprietary #data in your organization In the world of conversational user interfaces becoming the norm, more parameters will be crucial for a seamless experience. "Streaming scientific software has never been so EESSI" by Alan O'Cais (Research Fellow / Universitat de Barcelona; Research software engineer / CECAM) Abstract: Have you ever wished that all the scientific #software you use was available on all the resources you had access to without having to go through the pain of getting them installed the way you want/need? The European Environment for Scientific Software Installations (#EESSI – pronounced “easy”) is a common stack of scientific software installations for HPC systems and beyond, including laptops, personal workstations and cloud infrastructure. In many ways it works like a streaming service for scientific software, instantly giving you the software you need, when you need it, and compiled to work efficiently for the architecture you have access to. In this talk, we’ll explain what EESSI is, how it is being designed, how to get access to it, and how to use it. Excited to announce that the preprint for my latest paper "Ensuring Responsible Sourcing of Large Language Model Training Data Through Knowledge Graph Comparison" in collaboration with Carlo Lipizzi has been released on arXiv. With the traditional "black-box" architecture of LLMs, understanding their training data becomes difficult due to a reliance on various metrics and intermediate components (perplexity, embeddings, etc.). We take a novel approach by considering content the LLM produces and avoid statistical methods, instead focusing on broad ideas through knowledge graphs. We utilize similarity metrics for content matching, and explore graph theory in the realm of large language models through a novel isomorphism metric to assess idea structure. We plan on submitting this paper to TACL, and hope that it advances the use of knowledge graphs and other visual knowledge representation techniques in large language models. Stay tuned.
