PsychedEli Cet album m'apaise. Il me fait voyager dans un lieu mystique et la voix de Geneviève nous transporte au cœur de la forêt. La guitare est magnifique, j'adore tout de cet album! Favorite track: Waning Sun.

Guillaume P. Trépanier Dreamy, sad and dark folk, but tinged with a strange feeling of serenity and a glimpse of warm light.
Always surprising what one can find lost in the middle of Quebec's forests.

Frotting Christ highly recommend using a quiet evening to sit in front of your cd player and follow along to the lyrics. Geneviève is one of the best working musicians of any genre. Favorite track: Ephemerals.

Daniel Daniel Somewhere beyond fear, all of us carry a sadness in our soul. Genevieve is gifted in the art of dancing in that space.

1.
La chanson de Coyote In rapture I was dancing on the border About to fall off your cliff Fearless dancing on the border What have you sung in my ear? Was it a warning of danger? I couldn’t hear clearly I couldn’t see through illusions And followed Coyote’s flame It sounded like grace… A dive from the height of my tower Into the heart of fears From the height of my tower A giant leap of faith Let the waves sail you home To your lover’s embrace I drank Coyote’s words and let the magic fade It sounded like grace… I thought I’d wake up in your arms As they were wide open I did not wake up at all And let the waves take me away Drifted past that narrow line Where there is nowhere in sight Half in the kingdom of the birds Half in the infinite sky I’ve mistaken water for fire And I invited the winds So you name a boat to help me travel away From this world I had dreamt without boundaries Where we were nothing but free Where Coyote was me No hope no fears Have I been swimming or drowning? Aren’t we still breathing?

The longest trail It was a long trail Defying any plan To get lost getting found Unearthing treasures in the dark What a long trail Pour retrouver le soleil Far off the beaten path Tout ce qui brille n’est pas de l’or From where I lie now it is pretty clear Where I lie now it is pretty clear The longest trail A lifetime of wandering The longest trail When your heart is clouded Let the evening unfold Breathe in the darkness Light above us is strong But in the wild night withdraws Cross old borders Daunting and hostile Headlong or on tip toes Until all poison dissolves From where I lie now it is pretty clear Where I lie now it is pretty clear The loneliest trail Pour retrouver le soleil The loneliest trail Nothing lights no road ahead If you draw the line a little farther Than the eye can see Will the horizon keep swallowing me No longer crawling not yet flying A limbo we’re in Our bodies are just disintegrating Will you follow me until the end of this backward journey We will not crawl but fly out of our grave
3.
Ephemerals Your light comes out and I am shaken with tears The sight of you is clear May you reveal what the earth conceals As soon as the soil warms up we will bury our grief My wound is where your light comes in Call me from years long sleep Show me what has grown beneath layers upon layers of dreams Snow as far as the mind eye can see Ephemerals unfurling Blood still frozen I woke up when fall was well underway Only a few rotten apples left May I feel again the sweetness of spring Briefly, and then return to sleep Love is all that it takes For our late embrace Love is all that is takes Will you let me drink from your well of fire When I am numbed with cold and life is falling apart I’ll thrive while the rest of the world is asleep Like bloodroots and windflowers Nestled unseen beneath the earth I’ll grow my roots throughout the winter Until flower be spoken The soil is now warm and I am shaken with tears My wound is where your light comes in Will you reveal what the earth conceals? Nothing has grown beneath layers upon layers of dreams Now melting and flooding reality Biting softer Overwintering Will you let me drink from your well of fire When I am numbed with cold and life is falling apart I’ll thrive while the rest of the world is asleep Like bloodroots and windflowers Nestled unseen beneath the earth I’ll grow my roots throughout the winter Until flower be spoken

Waning Sun 05:48
Waning Sun I fear my sun is waning Solemn and grey Why did it fail to light my way? Not a burn I can remember Not a ray of hope nor any morning Was I blind to its faith? To the promise of a warm embrace and peace A new storm is gathering From the north again Why does it blow in my way? Am I too tidal in your moon ignoring An hawk would roam in And feed of my heart Dying beast Offering itself on the peak of a mountain Sky buried Tell me another story ending Mine has plot holes I don’t even recognize my own voice Tell me another story ending Mine was stolen at birth and I couldn’t read between the lines Give me another story ending Even if stolen and I will try and make it my own La mer étale will rock me… Ses vives-eaux will be the death of me…
5.
Severed Head Just another idle day We were gladly reeking The first thing to fall was your severed head Scavengers on the side road Made their way to your sorrow Your blood ran cold, your blood ran cold She could kill or raise the dead Only a drop in your desert Of her wise blood will flow And before you’ll know it You will be rid of all your sorrows Let the oasis grow But your blood was cold, already cold Why are you afraid of snakes? Dance with the serpent instead Approach it in a friendly way And you won’t be turned to stone, You won’t be turned to stone I am not a nightmare Nor are you sleepwalking At the western edge of the world What if it was your gateway? If I was your mirror? Why are you afraid of snakes? Dance with the serpent instead Approach it in a friendly way And you won’t be turned to stone, You won’t be turned to stone I may bleed yet not die I may kill you with my eyes But I am not a nightmare Nor are you sleepwalking At the western edge of the world What if it was your gateway? If I was your mirror? Moon is my only mirror Let her light ensnare you in her circle Let her light embrace you with kindness In her light bathe, calm will settle in Let her light awake you from the shadows Fear will turn to wonder Just another idle day We were gladly reeking The last thing to fall was my severed head Rolling down on the side road Hissing to your heart of stone While your blood ran cold, mine went gold
6.
Sink my Own Boat I’ve been traveling night and day I fear I have no sailors left A ghost ship drifting aimlessly Only a ghost captain on board Which star shall I follow? Which bird will lead me to my tribe? Will I ever reach the shore? My heart is hardly beating Magpie will you lead me To the ones I love and whom truly love me Magpie will you lead me Where my own people are living freely I will sink my own boat And I’ll go far off places Cause down beneath deep waters Lively and warm Lies such an heartbreak I’ve been traveling night and day Dark waters have been leaking in I sail the ocean in a false way By pretending to be floating By keeping everyone at bay Yearning to learn from the whales and dolphins To be a mermaid without singing In the subterranean streams White swan, will you teach me How to glide across water so gracefully White swan, will you teach me How to ride still waters that run that deep I will sink my own boat And I’ll go far off places Cause down beneath deep waters Lively and warm Lies such an heartbreak Lead me where life and death flow seamlessly Lead me where my loved ones live everlastingly

about

With Augury, her first album under her own name, Geneviève returns to her primary instrument, the nylon-string guitar she fell in love with when she was 13. She composed a bunch of songs in 2011-12 while still in Montreal amidst a whirlwind of musical activities with her other projects. After moving into the woods with her Menace Ruine partner S. in 2014, they took a distance from public musical life. The peace and quiet she found there rekindled her love for classical guitar and she recorded 13 songs from this repertoire in 2017‑18, surrounded by her beloved cats. Augury is the first part. The lyrics slowly emerged over the following years, infused with her life in the woods and her deep connection with the natural world, especially birds and other animals.
While her creative work in Menace Ruine is driven by an exploration of distorted and evocative sounds from which songs are born, powerfully led by her distinctive voice, her solo album takes a more traditional and stripped-down approach. The songs are driven by melodies with minimal arrangements to preserve the purity and singularity of her voice and classical guitar, creating a dreamy atmosphere.
