This yields about 8% performance improvement in this loop example:

$ time ./sci "(loop [val 0 cnt 1000000] (if (pos? cnt) (recur (inc val) (dec cnt)) val))"
1000000
./sci    0.92s  user 0.08s system 99% cpu 1.010 total

Used to be about 1s.
