In a collaboration aimed at advancing practical knowledge on biodiversity impact and dependency assessments, PBAF and Impact Institute have announced a collaboration to work together on a biodiversity capacity–building programme. The ‘Finance & Nature Toolbox’ programme consists of, amongst other things, an awareness programme of training and webinars and of building a ‘Finance and Nature Toolbox’ – guide, supporting Financial Institutions (FIs) to take action on biodiversity. The programme, made possible by the Global Commons Alliance and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, aims to familiarise FIs with biodiversity impact and dependency assessment tools available on the market and to encourage utilising those tools in practice. There is a clear need for practical information and guidance on the use of tools in the finance and biodiversity field. This is precisely what the capacity-building programme is destined to do: provide FIs with hands-on support to put the right tools to use.

CGAP 2024 Council of Governors Annual Meeting 🗣 Laura Fernández Lord, head of #Sustainability, #Equity and #Inclusion for #BBVAMF, during the panel, "The Case for Inclusive Climate Finance: A Provider Perspective" discussed the "big challenge" faced by FSPs regarding the support clients need when coping with adverse #ClimateChange impact. 👉🏽 According to her, it is not a matter of designing new solutions, but to scale them. And scaling requires: 1️⃣ 🌤 Climate data to design the right value proposition for client resilience 2️⃣ 📊 Business case that connects with client motivation 3️⃣ 👥 Continuous staff training in adaptation measures 4️⃣ 🤝 Adequate partners to be integrated into the business model and offer affordable “green” solutions 5️⃣ ✅ De-risking operations: taking into account climate risk without causing financial exclusion 6️⃣ 🍃 Remember! Green does not equal agricultural: Green products are not limited to small farmers in rural areas, but are also for urban vulnerable populations. ➡ She also added that, "The vulnerable population segments are greatly unprotected from climate change, their livelihoods usually facing the highest risks. So yes, this is a matter of achieving sustainability and fighting climate change but above all, of fighting #poverty and #inequality, and guaranteeing food security and health, leaving no one behind".

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) yesterday published new guidance to help banks mobilise capital towards circular economy solutions to address global challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. The guidance recognises the need for companies to measure and report on progress towards a circular economy, and for standardisation around key metrics on eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products and materials, and regenerating nature. It references our report — Navigating the circular economy reporting landscape — to highlight reporting frameworks that include these circular economy metrics, which can help banks comply with international environmental treaties.
