In the shimmering dark of night Reflections gleam from streetlights Stars are tapestries woven tight Waves lap at our heels so nice It’s getting dark so I think that i’ll stay Here on the shore, back on my way Yeah Void of misery, none tonight Under galaxies the stars so bright Shine upon us waves so nice Reflections of ourselves in moonlight It’s getting dark so I think that i’ll stay Here on the shore, back on my way Yeah
10.
The Present 02:22
Seed floating in a sea of grey With any luck i’ll be here all day An afternoon with a nod to the past Bittersweet with a nod to the present day You are the present I’m the afternoon I keep thinking I should go away But I know that i’m here to stay An afternoon with a nod to the past Bittersweet with a nod to the present day You are the present I’m the afternoon

After the sun goes down It’s time to clown around Have a drink or have a few Do what you need to do When the sun goes down I’ll be hanging round Round here’ After the sun goes down It’s time to clown around Have a drink or have a few Do what you need to do When the sun goes down The worlds still spinning round Round me Around you Around here Around here
12.
Out of Reach 02:47
It’s out of reach, Staring at nothing as the tree barely clings to its last leaves Yeah you know it’s something man, you know its so You know it’s pure You know it’s pure You know it’s pure It's out of reach He’d be forgotten in the window, drinking moonlight tea Bending to the flowers man you know it’s so You know it’s pure You know it’s pure You know it’s pure And there’s something There’s still something Out of reach You know it’s pure You know it’s pure You know it’s pure It’s out of reach Antipodean motionless as they dreamed up recipes Yeah that's the medicine Drink it down You know it’s pure You know it’s pure You know it’s pure And there’s something There’s still something Out of reach
13.
The Pass 02:10
In a town that time forgot Gold in the river and then there's not They never thought it would be this way Still the bells ring everyday There are words written in the rock Mined from the quarry of those they lost A phrase in latin from the day Cut the ribbons commemorate They never through it would be this way Still the bells ring out for everyone But no ones left today

about

Grey Eyes, Grey Lynn is a record that could only come from inner-city Auckland and is an open window into Jim Nothing's world. Created during a time of isolation, Jim reflects on his immediate surroundings, finding beauty in the ordinary and noting the eccentricities of everyday life.

Jim Nothing's songwriting has matured, showing a refined narrative which pulls from lived experience. Themes and scenes of local pubs, open roads, psychedelic summers and deep melancholia. This is antipodean life at the edge of the world. Written on walks through the neighborhood with a notebook and pen.

Recorded between The Audio Foundation and Jim's own garage. The amalgamation of spaces further blurs the line between a “demo” and a final recording, as buried within the songs are the initial moments of weird magic and intimacy.

The outcome is an album that retains the crystalline nature of early recordings, offering a feel very much immediate and genuine. Sonic experimentation of acoustic instruments, layered guitar drone and catchy pop hooks create a palette both heady and new.

Influences from New Zealand's past can undoubtedly be heard (The Clean, Snapper, LBGP) but the world contained within ‘Grey Eyes, Grey Lynn’ is a world of Jims. Both a slice of life and a moment in time.

This record was made possible by Brian Feary, Paul Brown, Frances Carter, Adele Andrews, Álvaro Lissón Aguiar, Mikey Young, Sam Longmore, Jeff Henderson, The Audio Foundation. Endless thanks to you all x Jim
