1.
Footsteps on the cold ground Lead straight to your door And the birds in my tangled tree Sing of love but call to war Beautiful birds are not meant to be caged You should have been true to your wings You should have flown away So left my tangled tree That once bore strong branches and leaves of green But how cruel and inevitable the passing of time can be Its wood doesn't grow It's bent and it's much too old Somehow in it's twisted arms I never felt alone This tangled tree Watched every inch of its majesty fade With fall of every leaf It always seemed to call me The crooked stoop, the bend and swoop Of its complicated beauty They cut it up to burn it down Bright lights rise out and over the fire

Track 2 01:50
This morning I fell off The pedestal you put me on And I don't remember promising To be the one Just someone But sadly someone is never enough If you want stars Enlightened dreams fulfilled with answers That I cannot provide If you don't want the truth Then I'd never be right by your side
3.
I could wish one thousand To be in the light that caught your eye And I could wish one thousand more To be the one that you'll adore But o'er my head you're searching far Some more bright beguiling star And fair young girls from wide and far come see what bright young man you are Please don't fall in love Me too small, too lean, too low Possess no charms to thrill you so And though my heart with love does grow It lacks the strength to tell you so But o'er my head you're searching far Some more bright beguiling star And fair young girls, I know they are Will steal your heart and drag you far Please don't fall in love In sleep I dream I catch your glance One starry night, moonlight we dance I hold my breath wait for my chance To see one night through in your arms But o'er my head you're searching far Some more bright beguiling star But their shine in time will pass And woe true love forever lasts Please don't fall in love
4.
Some give an inch But I need an mile I'm not weak The wolf is sly Just get dazed by its eyes Can't leave a trail Cos breadcrumbs we tried And you never fall the same way every time You just lose, bruise and wise Learn to lose, bruise and get wise I cannot rest No place to lay me head And I can't help feeling alone When nothing feels like home Some give an inch But I'll give a mile I'm not weak The wolf is sly Just get dazed by its eyes

about

My first ever release, released back in 2006, when I first started my career as a solo singer/songwriter under the temporary pseudonym 'Mondesir'
The name 'Mon Desir,' which means 'My Desire' in French, reflected my secret aspiration to become a professional solo artist. By the time I released my debut album 'One Light Is Gone,' my then publisher had convinced me that my real name was lovely and perfectly suited for a famous female artist.
This blast from the past includes songs you might not have heard and the ORIGINAL version of my well-worn classic - 'The Tangled Tree'
This original version contains an extra verse, removed in later iterations of the song. It's a collector's item for anyone interested in having the full picture of how 'Josienne Clarke' came to be!
