Love the combination of these artists. It's incredible that this material came from spending one day together improvising in the studio. So glad they recorded it and took time to edit and present it as an album. Hope they will collaborate again - Una noche en México? Una semana en México?

In 2022, LINE artist France Jobin was preparing for a residency at Casa Del Lago in Mexico. Eager to brush up on her Spanish, she dove into the Mexican-American series 'El Candidato" for preparation. Amidst watching, she was entranced by the remarkable soundtrack, prompting her to halt and delve into the composer behind it.
Like a note cast into the sea, with no anticipation of a response, she reached out to the composer, Yamil Rezc, to convey her admiration for the music. To her surprise, he replied.
Skipping ahead to April 2022, the pair met in Mexico City. They embarked on a leisurely stroll along La Reforma, capturing numerous field recordings along the way, and soon realized that they were musically kindred spirits.
Later that year, Jobin received an invitation to Mutek MX to present "Entanglement AV" with Markus Heckmann. Jobin set aside a day to collaborate with Rezc at his studio. They fired up all the equipment and began a spontaneous improvisation session, seamlessly transitioning from one instrument to another. The subsequent year was spent refining and editing the tracks from afar. This album stands as the culmination of that memorable day: "Un Día en México."

France Jobin is a sound / installation / artist, film composer, and curator residing in Montreal, whose audio art can be qualified as “sound-sculpture", reveals a minimalist approach to complex sound environments where analog and digital intersect. Her installations incorporate both musical and visual elements inspired by the architecture of physical spaces. Her work can be “experienced” internationally in a variety of unconventional spaces and new technology festivals.
Jobin has solo recordings on many renowned labels, mainly popmuzik records (JP), LINE (US), ROOM40 (AU), nvo (AT), Baskaru (FR) and ATAK (JP),No-ware (CL-DE) and Editions Mego (AT). Her sound art is also part of countless compilation albums and her collaboration with acclaimed artist Richard Chartier, DUO, is released on the mAtter label in Japan.
While her music often makes use of restraint and limit, she isn't one to shy away from extremes. Her skillful interplay between highs and lows, louds and softs, creates an intricate narrative, which stretches the listener's perception and continually refocuses attention.
DUO A/V premiered at Mutek Mtl 2019 with sound artist Richard Chartier and visual artist Markus Heckmann and was presented at the Precxte festival in South Corea. In 2021, she presented the world premiere of Entanglement AV with Markus Heckmann at Mutek Edition 22. Influenced by theories in quantum physics since 2008, the pandemic has allowed her time to study and dive into this scientific universe, Entanglement is the first iteration of this large-scale project. Since the premiere, they have presented it at Mutek ES in March 2022 and at INDEX - Biennale of media arts in Braga Portugal, at GAS festival in October in Göteberg, Sweden, Mutek MX and Mutek JP. An XR version has also been created and has been touring worldwide since the launch of the Mutek Immersive Collection in August 2022. A third iteration—Entanglement dome—was presented at SAT Montreal and at the Zeiss planetarium in Berlin in 2023.
In 2020, she composed the soundtrack for Ouroboros - Maxime Le Flaguais’s first short film.
In November 2019 and in March 2024, she presented live modular concerts with the Buchla 100 (1966/1967) at the Ernst Krenek Institute in Austria.
She was a finalist at the Sonic Arts Awards 2014 (IT) in the Sonic Research category. In January 2013, the Conseil québécois de la musique awarded France Jobin with the prestigious Opus Prize for Concert of the year at AKOUSMA 8.
Jobin’s work continues to evolve as technologies enable her to create new environment and is published by Touch Music/Fairwood Music UK Ltdv.

“There is a quality I would use to describe something going on in the music of Kali Malone. In Living Torch, I feel what I would call “the isness of what is happening,” breaching denial, inciting acknowledgement & caring, in the midst of devastation, & holding it still.”

Who would have imagined Federico Durand as an appearance here (Third Dream)? The collaboration is enchanting.
Federico has a way with abstract but deceptively simple, nearly melodic single note patterns. That combined with Stephan’s multilayered drones…it just works at every level. Richard Erickson
