Ind vs Aus Test: Jasprit Bumrah picks six wickets as Australia fold for 445

Synopsis

Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul, including the key dismissals of Steve Smith and Travis Head, put India back in contention after the pair's 241-run stand propelled Australia to a strong position on Day 2 of the third Test at the Gabba. Smith scored his 33rd Test century, his first since June 2023, while Head smashed 152.

Star India player Jasprit Bumrah was at his best with the second new ball in the third Test against Australia at GABBA, Brisbane on Sunday. The pacer got his 12th five-wicket haul as he dismissed the Australian top order.

Australia ended the innings at 445 all out, riding on centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Wicket-keeper Alex Carey provided quick runs batting with the tail on Day 3 before falling for 70. Bumrah finished with 6/76.

India suffered another top order collapse as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli got out before lunch. The visitors were reduced to 22/3. KL Rahul is batting on 13.

On Day 2, India started well with Bumrah getting openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney in the first five overs of the day.

Marnus Labuschagne's horror series continued as he managed only 12 runs before edging one off Nitish Kumar Reddy.

However, Head came out with an attacking mindset, while Smith held on to one end. The duo added a partnership of 241 runs for the fourth wicket and it looked like Australia were eying a massive total.

Smith registered his 33rd Test century. It was his 10th Test ton against India in just 41 innings, the joint most with Joe Root. This was the 35-year-old's first three figure score since June 2023, between which he had played 23 innings, the most number of innings he had gone without a hundred. He was dismissed for 101 runs. Head, on the other hand, smashed 152 runs off only 160 balls.

Bumrah, however, had other plans and picked up three wickets in four overs with the second new ball. The pacer got the wickets of centurions Smith and Head, while he also dismissed Mitchell Marsh cheaply for just five runs.

Siraj got the wicket of Pat Cummins even as wicket-keeper Alex Carey remained unbeaten on 45 at stumps on Day 2. He was partnered by Mitchell Starc.

On Day 1, rain played spoil sport as only 13.2 over were bowled and Australia was 28/0.
