Upcoming NASA Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) Advanced Webinar: Accuracy Assessment of a Land Cover ClassificationAccuracy of Landcover classifications can be important when estimating Carbon in a system. In last year’s ARSET Advanced Webinar: Land Cover Classification with Satellite Imagery, attendees learned the basic steps to create a supervised land cover classification. The next step to using land cover classifications is being able to evaluate the performance of a land cover map using accuracy assessments. Course Dates: Two, 2 hour sessions. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays, February 13 and 20, 2018, at 11:00-13:00 or 23:00-01:00 EST (UTC-5). The session is broadcast twice per day to allow for international participation.ASLO Summer Meeting Session on Biogeochemical Transformations Across Terrestrial – Aquatic InterfacesAmanda Spivak is co-organizing a session at the ASLO summer meeting that may be of interest to NACP scientists. Abstracts are due on Feb 23. SS58: Biogeochemical Transformations Across Terrestrial – Aquatic Interfaces Know of other sessions at ASLO that should be advertised on the NACP website? Send an email to [email protected] and let us know! 2018 Goldschmidt Conference – biannual meeting of the Geochemical Society and the European Association of GeochemistryThe 2018 Goldschmidt conference will be in Boston, August 12-17 2018, and will include sessions on carbon in ocean/atmosphere chemistry, biogeochemical cycles, climate, energy resources, and soils. Tenure-track position at University of Maine: Forest Ecosystem PhysiologyThe School of Forest Resources at the University of Maine seeks a collaborative colleague to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Forest Ecosystem Physiology. The successful applicant is expected to fully participate in undergraduate and graduate education and build a strong research program. Forests dominate 90% of Maine’s landscape and face a variety of ecological challenges that include sustainable commodity production, ecosystem rehabilitation, natural regeneration, forest health, carbon sequestration, and a changing climate. This position would apply various fundamental principles, research methods (e.g., field studies, experiments, eddy-covariance flux measurements, and/or process modeling), and experimental findings to improve understanding of tree-, stand-, and landscape-scale ecophysiological function of forests. This work should also support state-of-the-art mechanistic modeling frameworks to better provide scientific information for addressing these challenges, making reliable predictions of future conditions, and guiding sustainable forest management with a holistic ecosystem perspective. Together with recent university hires, the advertised position will deepen our expertise in plant sciences across academic units and centers in fulfillment of our Land-Grant University’s mission. Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions available at the School for the Environment, University of Massachusetts BostonTwo postdoctoral Research Fellow positions are currently available at the School for the Environment, University of Massachusetts Boston. These positions will contribute to grant supported research associated with the development and application of albedo products from the Terra and Aqua MODIS, the Suomi-NPP VIIRS, and the Landsat OLI sensors. There will also be opportunities to participate in field work (including research with terrestrial scanning lidars) and attend meetings, workshops, and conferences.
