The Education Department of the Archaeological Park of Pompeiipromotes learning initiatives about cultural heritage in accordance with article 9 of the Italian constitution and the principles set out in the ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums.
The office is concerned with all the activities designed to further knowledge of cultural heritage at various levels, in accordance with the principles of equity, inclusion andfull accessibility, encouraging the active participation and involvement of communities in the territory.
More specifically, the department coordinates the following activities:
- It coordinates and supervises the formulation and creation of the Park’s learning, educational, training, entertainment and cultural initiatives targeted at various categories of visitors, focusing on the central role of education which is at the forefront of the museum’s mission. Work is currently underway on the selection procedure for setting up a partnership that will be responsible for implementing and running the Park’s official educational programme.
- It coordinates the projects involving schools, including PCTO (Pathways for Soft Skills and Guidance), in which the Park acts as the host institution. By giving them practical experience, the PCTOprogramme helps pupils to consolidate the knowledge acquired at school, test their aptitude in the field, enrich their education and provide guidance for their choice of subject to study and their future work, with the aid of projects geared to their syllabus.
- It runs the apprenticeship activities and other forms of collaboration in terms of education and training with Italian and foreign universities. The Park can host students as part of curricular apprenticeship projects which constitute a training methodology and an active policy measure for careers guidance and work placement.Check the designated pagefor further information.
- It coordinates and runs the activities of the Erasmus+ programme, the European Union programme devoted to education, training, youth and sport for the period 2021-2027. The programme is designed to promote mobility and the cooperation of individuals and groups for the purposes of learning through the active participation of the people involved in order to encourage inclusion and equity, creativity and innovation in terms of the organisations and policies in the field of education, training and youth policies.
