Rusted Drones is an ongoing series of releases inviting artists from the RTR network to contribute music and sound celebrating all things drone. There's no real instruction when it comes to the Rusted Drone series, allowing each artist to approach the task in their own way. The second instalment, Vol. 2, features new music from Möbius, Arvik Torrenssen, Akira Sileas, Lucy Adlington, and Slow Clinic.
Möbius is the North East duo of Skylar Gill and James Watts. The pair build fascinating, hypnotic drones through layers upon layers of looped vocals. 'Impending' is a long-form live recording, combining elements of harmony, chant, and overtone and a throat singing. The track captures the live and improvisational approach Skylar and James take when creating faithfully, and also marks a rare appearance of the voice on RTR.
Arvik Torrenssen is a UK based temporal sound collective, using environmental, atmospheric and other data, together with nurtured sounds borrowed from or inspired by nature, to create reimagined and often fragmentary soundscapes. Their two tracks for this compilation, including aspects of the movement and composition, were constructed and inspired during the end of Summer 2022 and used solar tide data from the awakening Solar Cycle 25, and a random pattern of late summer rain live sampled in South West England.
Akira Sileas is an experimental musician and lecturer based in the South East who previously released the album 'Ito' on the label back in February 2021. Akira's approach to music making and performance is ever changing, with releases built on modular synthesis, sampling, and no input techniques. Akira's contribution, 'Composition for One Organ', is a long-form piece composed for pipe organ and recorded in a nearby church.
Lucy Adlington is an experimental musician and song writer from the North East; a multi-instrumentalist across a wide variety of styles, Lucy writes and performs with guitar, piano, lute, and vocals. Lucy's musical inclusion in an RTR release is long awaited, as she was the earliest collaborator with the label way back in 2018, helping to establish the aesthetic for RTR and designing the physical merchandise during the first year of operation.
Slow Clinic is the solo performance and recording project of James Edward Armstrong. The track seated on this album, 'Insular', avoids his usual approach of guitar loops and extended techniques in favour of string samples played across lower registers, material impacts, and digital audio manipulation.

Brilliant exploration in minimalism. The drone and spread make this a great album to come back to and reflect on openings in ourselves and the world we exist in. L.N. Quinn
