“to the eyes that remain soft” consists of music that was written during a time of physical and emotional distress while recovering from a chronic illness that altered my ability to perform life normally for many months.
As I was unable to play flute, I started learning the Appalachian Dulcimer, an instrument that I purchased from a local craftsman and teacher in Western Pennsylvania. This instrument became a strong symbol of my healing. I spent many hours playing folk tunes and learning to play with a bow, an uncommon, but possible technique.
The band featured on this album came to me in one of my many vivid and intense dreams during my healing process. I trust these musicians dearly. I implored them to explore their own relationship to breath, pain, and healing during the rehearsal and recording process.
The first track opens in an etherial space centered around the breath.
The second track depicts the sensations of pain in the body, including the mind and heart.
The third track envisions moments of subtle observation, of bowing many instruments over a long period of time.
The final track stands as a projection of hope to have better dreams for ourselves, our friends, our families, our communities.
Thank you for listening. Here’s to better dreams.

Lucky are those who were there to witness this live performance. Holy moly, man. There are many extended moments in this record, during Ashimba, for instance, of a transcendental beauty and enduring trance-inducing power. I'd recommend this especially to fans of drumming and percussion. Fantastic album. Cosmographer
