Barbara Hillary (adventurer)

Barbara Hillary (June 12, 1931 – November 23, 2019)[1][2] was the first known black woman to reach the North Pole, which she did at the age of 75 in 2007.[3] She reached the South Pole in January 2011 at the age of 79, becoming the first African-American woman on record to make it there and the first black woman to reach both poles.[4] She was born in New York City.

Hillary died at a hospital in New York City on November 23, 2019 of lung and breast cancer, aged 88.[5]
