Charles Thomas Munger (January 1, 1924 – November 28, 2023) was an American investor, businessman and philanthropist. He was vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway alongside Warren Buffett. He was chairman of Wesco Financial Corporation from 1984 through 2011. He was also chairman of the Daily Journal Corporation and a director of Costco Wholesale Corporation.[2]

Munger was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1924. As a teenager he worked at Buffett & Son, a grocery store owned by Warren Buffett's grandfather.

Munger enrolled at the University of Michigan, where he studied mathematics but dropped out a few days after his 19th birthday in 1943 to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a meteorologist, promoting to second lieutenant. He later studied meteorology at the California Institute of Technology but did not graduate. Through the G.I. Bill Munger entered Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude with a J.D. in 1948.

After moving to California, he worked at a law firm before setting up his own firm. He later quit law and began to develop real estate. He got his start as an investor in the early 1960s and is mostly known for his association with Buffett.

In his 50s, after a failed eye cataract surgery that made his left eye blind, Munger had his left eye removed because of severe pain.[3]

In September 2023, Munger had an estimated net worth of $2.7 billion according to Forbes.[4]

Munger died at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California on November 28, 2023, at the age of 99.[5]
