Wikipedia:Interface administrators
Appearance
This page is a policy on the Simple English Wikipedia. Many people agree with it. They see it as a standard idea that all users should normally follow. When changing this page (except for minor errors like typos), please check that other people agree with your changes. Use the talk page when you are not sure or when you want to suggest a change. |
Interface administrators are users who are able to
- Edit any user's custom CSS, JavaScript, and JSON pages
- Edit the site-wide CSS, JavaScript, and JSON, whether for a specific skin or for everyone
- Edit pages in the MediaWiki namespace, which affects the text in the wiki's user interface
This right is distributed by bureaucrats on an as-needed basis and removed when the needed edit is made. If you wish to request the right, please ask on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard.
History
Previously, all administrators could edit any CSS and JavaScript page on the wiki. However, in view of possible security concerns, this user group was introduced to all wikis and the above rights revoked from administrators[1] following a WMF-wide consultation. This change was made effective in late August 2018.
Notes
- ↑ Administrators continue to retain the right to edit JSON and other non-code pages in the MediaWiki namespace.
