Major B.A. Olley RIP
Well my Dad went to the big LAD Workshop in the sky on Sunday afternoon.

Sadly Dad died without sorting anything out for his funeral. I think this was because he just never thought he would really die, and if a Doctor told him so, he was the type of person to tell the Doctor to get stuffed because he didn't know what he was talking about.

By Law, t is now incumbent upon me and my 2 sisters to pay his funeral costs in Germany.

His brothers and sisters have chipped in a lot but we are still only half way there.

This is a weird email because I'm so desperate to try and drum up some money without having to sell equipment I really need to make music with.

I've put a release together from studio recordings made during The Closer You Get Sessions in the Spring of 1999.

There's some good stuff on these two CD's. Most of it is recordings from The Closer You Get. There are some great early takes of My Life Is An Accident and also Bowie's Heroes, which we did for a John Peel session at the time. I sang it in German last minute at the BBC studio in Maida Vale but the version on these CD's is English.

In fact, during the recording session at The Square Centre in Nottingham, we broke the gear down twice, once for the Peel Session and another time to support Fugazi at The Marcus Garvey Centre in Notts.

Because of the gig, there's some good recordings of old songs on the second CD as we were rehearsing the set we would play with Fugazi and, until today, I never realised we recorded it.

So we have some cool versions of Brilliantly Cute and Something Wild. (We rehearsed these in the afternoon of the same day as the gig).

So anyway, I have made the download completely free and the double CD is just £10.

You can take the recordings for free if you want to but I would love it if you could chip something in, but only if you can afford it.

My Dad never approved of me making music for a living and often told me I was 'wasting my time gyrating about the stage like a fool.'

If everyone on this mailing list chipped in a quid or two, I could easily afford to pay for his whole funeral.

Maybe we could try!

Nothing would make me happier than knowing it was you and me and the music that sent him on his way! 😂

Anyway, please help me and my sisters out if you can. All the money from this release will go towards his funeral.

As well as the CD and download, I'm also selling a couple of guitars from the Bandcamp site.

Don't panic, I don't use them, and they are very cheap. I can sign them for you too. (Sorry but these guitars are for UK postage only)

My Dad was a tough guy and we had our differences, but it doesn't matter, he was my Dad, and I loved him and I'm so sad he's gone.
