It was great to put my live and improvised set, more minimal for the road, to the test - that being truly live. Part of my music making is to place myself in a space beyond step by step and rational thinking. Those nights often my right hand did not know what my left hand was doing. Indeed, the right and left sides of my brain were also out of sync. I have an interface to control notes and sound waves in each hand which unpredictably collide. Live on stage, I am trying to embrace the chaos. Chaos has its own predictable character. Instead, an unusual, human-made, audible form emerges from the turmoil, songs, that I have recorded and present here.
There are some pop elements to the sets. A week prior to the first show my best friend passed away, and two songs were written for him. Playing music allowed me to momentarily overcome grief, and you will hear some joy popping through the mix in the added melodies.
My friend was also an artist and musician. Although his music could be called amateur, fun, or 'a side project', all of which he would admit, he was deeply serious about it. His tracks have a lifetime of music loving, followed by DJing, knowledge and analysis and rumination (tommoody on Bandcamp). Every, note, phrase, and sound is carefully scrutinized and chosen, and, although almost the complete opposite process of mine, we often collaborated (StCelferandtommoody on Bandcamp) sharing the same basic philosophy about making art.
* folk do futuro y marchas anarchistica
* improvisational compositions on glitch-tronics, treading failure with
counterblasts through the vanishing point
* there is a lot of noise today - we need to hear the music within it
* American & Korean, floats between São Paulo, New York, and Seattle...more
dissonant and 'art,' as opposed to arty...had beats, but also skronky sounds resembling giant uncoiling springs overlapping in reverberating, Stockhausen-like crescendos - Tom Moody // St Celfer
