Trans inmate who abused women in jail sent to prison dubbed 'Monster Mansion'

EXCLUSIVE: Karen White has been moved to HMP Wakefield following a series of rape and sexual assault convictions - both in and out jail

A transgender prisoner who molested inmates at a women’s jail is now locked up with Britain’s most dangerous MEN.

Karen White, who was born David Thompson but claims to identify as a woman, has been moved to HMP Wakefield – nicknamed Monster Mansion.

The switch comes after White – still legally a man – was jailed for life last month for sexually assaulting two female prisoners at nearby New Hall and after admitting raping two other women while outside prison.

The New Hall attacks happened while White, 52 – a convicted paedophile – was on remand for threatening a 66-year-old neighbour with a steak knife.

A source said: “It must be a bit of an eye-opener to go from New Hall to Wakefield, to put it mildly.”

Female lags at New Hall, which also houses juveniles and young offenders, keep their own chickens and have ensuite toilets and showers in their cells.

But eight miles away at Wakefield Category A prison, inmates are subject to one of the toughest regimes in the country.

The jail has been home to the likes of Soham monster Ian Huntley, Charles Bronson, child killer Stuart Hazell and mass murderer Robert Maudsley who killed three behind bars.

White was kept on remand at New Hall even though she had not undergone transgender surgery. Wakefield insiders say she has become “depressed” as she adjusts to life there and has now started gender reassignment.

She is allowed to dress as she pleases, at the governor’s discretion – but sources say she is struggling to raise funds to buy wigs and make-up.

When White was jailed the judge at Leeds Crown Court branded her a “significant risk to women”.

Requests for transfer from prisoners on self-identified gender grounds are normally assessed by a special board.

Last night the Ministry of Justice would not comment on White’s Wakefield switch.
