VISAKHAPATNAM: More than 13,000 people from various parts of the country are expected to take part in the ninth edition of the Navy Marathon to be held on the beach road in Vizag city on December 15. The
Visakhapatnam district administration and Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of
Indian Navy geared up to complete the necessary arrangements for the successful conduct of the annual event.
Visakhapatnam District Collector Harendhira Prasad conducted a review meeting with the officials from the ENC as well as the various departments for the arrangements for Navy Marathon. He asked the city police to impose certain traffic restrictions on the beach road in the city on Dec 15 for smooth conduct of the event.
The Collector suggested the officials to utilise AU English Medium School, AU Convention Hall and APIIC Grounds as parking spaces. He also said that ambulances and fire engines should be arranged at Vishwapriya Function Hall on the beach road besides erect a stage on the beach road to conduct the event, distribution of prizes and cultural events.
The Navy marathon will feature four race categories_ 42 kms (From Viswapriya Function Hall to INS Kalinga and INS Kalinga to Function Hall) 21 kms 10 kms, and 5 kms. The race route was accredited by the Association of International Marathons. A cumulative prize pool of approximately Rs10 lakh will be awarded to winners across various categories.
The Black Buck, the mascot for the ninth edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon, symbolizes the legacy of
Andhra Pradesh, being its State animal, and is also inscribed on the Crest of INS Visakhapatnam. This symbolizes the long-term association and synergy between the Indian Navy and the State.
The eighth edition of Vizag Navy Marathon held on November 5, 2023 had received an overwhelming response in the city and the Beach Road witnessed a sea of people as over 12,000 participants from parts of the country enthusiastically took part in the run along the scenic Beach Road stretch.
