Elizabeth Olsen, known for playing Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently shared her reasons for repeatedly stepping back into the superhero world.
Olsen explained that her Marvel roles have been a sort of safety net, allowing her to explore smaller, independent films. "I’ve never had the mindset of ‘one for them, one for me,’” she said. “But Marvel has given me a sense of security in my life that lets me take on other jobs without pressure.”
Before her Marvel debut, Olsen earned critical acclaim in indie films like 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' (2011). Since joining the MCU in 2014, she has appeared in seven Marvel projects, including 'Avengers: Endgame', 'WandaVision', and 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. Despite her involvement in blockbuster films, Olsen has maintained a presence in indie and TV projects, such as 'Ingrid Goes West' and 'Sorry for Your Loss'.
Though Marvel has been a valuable part of her career, Olsen is now focusing on broadening her portfolio. After her role in 'Doctor Strange 2', she admitted she doesn’t particularly miss playing Wanda but hasn’t completely ruled out a return. She’s open to reprising the character if it fits naturally into the story, but she’s clear that her priority is exploring different roles as she grows in her craft.
Whether or not
Wanda Maximoff returns to the MCU remains uncertain, but Olsen’s comments highlight the opportunities the respective studio has given her to become a versatile and respected actor. Regardless of what comes next, her work in and out of Marvel has solidified her as a powerful force in Hollywood.
