NEW DELHI: Starting her parliamentary journey, Wayanad MP
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday took oath as MP of Lok Sabha with a copy of the Constitution in her hand as has been the trend with INDIA bloc members in the 18th House.
As soon as the House started, Priyanka and Nanded MP Ravindra Chavan, who won the bypoll on the seat that fell vacant after the death of his father Vasantrao Chavan, were called for the oath, with Speaker Om Birla in the chair.
In the morning, Priyanka met Congress members in the parliamentary party office in the old Parliament building, who then, led by Rahul Gandhi, accompanied her to the House. Congress benches chanted "jodo jodo, Bharat jodo" as she walked to the podium for the brief opening ritual.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka's mother Sonia Gandhi, husband Robert Vadra, son Raihan, daughter Miraya and other family members watched the oath from the galleries. Hugged by Rahul, Priyanka then took a seat in the fourth row of Congress benches.
Later, the House was adjourned amid opposition's continuing protest over Adani indictment and Sambhal police firing.
