Several exciting moments took place in Las Vegas on Saturday. One of them was the semi-final matchups in the second annual NBA Cup, pitting the Atlanta Hawks against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Houston Rockets. Another interesting thing was the shooting competition between Kenny Smith, a former basketball player in the NBA, and Stephen A. Smith, a popular sports personality known collaborator with Lethal Shooter in the past. Kenny thought it would be fun to do the whole thing with his left hand, but Stephen won by 3-1 as a result.
Stephen, age 57, played basketball in his college years but his career was cut down due to a knee injury. On the other hand, Kenny is a former basketball player turned sports commenter, had been in the NBA from 1987 to 1997 as a member of the Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and Denver Nuggets. However, Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard can’t believe the result of the shootout.
What did Kenny Smith say about the shootout result?
In an interview shared by the
official Twitter account of NBA on TNT, one of the hosts said Damian is one of the greatest free shooters in the game along with Kenny Smith and Stephen A. Smith. Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard already figured out the result,
“Please don’t tell me he lost Stephen A.” The other hosts quickly joined in on the fun and poked fun at Kenny for losing to Stephen.
It’s just not them but even the fans are part of the fun. Although Kenny had a handicap in the match, it won’t stop the fans from making fun of the situation. One of them jokes,
“Kenny has 2 championship rings. And he wasn’t a bench player. How? How does he lose to Steven A? We will never hear the end of this.”“Kenny was scared to lose to Stephen A right-handed smh,” jokes another.
One more fan added, “Kenny just sandbagged so he had an excuse if he lost, coward move.”
The
official account also shared a clip of the contest where Kenny and Stephen A. free throw amid a crowd of spectators. The friendly match was part of the NBA Cup semifinals pregame program. The mixing of network personalities was intriguing, with "Inside the NBA," a sports talk show currently airing on TNT. It will soon move to ESPN next season as part of a media rights package.
Damian Lillard is one of the star players in the Milwaukee Bucks. He played a key role, along with Giannis Antetokounmpo, the captain of the team. Damian had a solid performance in the NBA Cup semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks, contributing 25 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals. The Bucks have entered the finals and will play against Oklahoma City Thunder on December 19, 2024 in Las Vegas.
