The
Milwaukee Bucks, currently sitting as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference with an impressive record of eight wins in their last 10 games, might be on the verge of a blockbuster trade. According to a recent proposal by Sports Illustrated, the Bucks are predicted to engage in a three-team trade that could shake up their roster, bringing in Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson, among other assets.
The proposed trade involves the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, and
Charlotte Hornets in a deal that sees significant player and draft pick movement:
-
Bucks receive: Cam Johnson, Grant Williams, Cody Martin, and Day'Ron Sharpe
-
Nets receive: Khris Middleton, Vasilije Micic, Bucks’ 2031 first-round pick, Hornets’ lottery-protected 2027 first-round pick, and one second-round pick
-
Hornets receive: Brook Lopez, De’Anthony Melton, MarJon Beauchamp, and Milwaukee Bucks’ 2031 second-round pick

While losing veterans
Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez may sting for fans, the potential benefits for the Bucks cannot be overlooked. Cam Johnson, valued at $94.5 million, is having the best season of his career. His versatility and improved offensive skill set make him a highly attractive addition. Johnson is currently shooting 49.1% from the field and an impressive 41.9% from beyond the arc, both notable jumps from last season.
Playing alongside two elite playmakers like Giannis Antetokounmpo and
Damian Lillard could elevate Cam Johnson’s game even further. As a player whose scoring thrives on assisted field goals, he would seamlessly fit into the Bucks' system. The added spacing created by Antetokounmpo and Lillard would allow Johnson to operate effectively as a three-point shooter, driver, or cutter.
Sports Illustrated highlights that Johnson’s growth as a player includes significant improvement in creating shots off the dribble and confidently driving to the rim. His ability to contribute without being ball-dominant is precisely what Milwaukee needs to maximize the impact of their superstars.
Although trading key players like Middleton and Lopez may feel like a gamble, this deal could ensure the Milwaukee Bucks remain strong contenders in the playoffs. With Giannis and Lillard at the helm, pairing them with a rising star like Cam Johnson could give Milwaukee the edge they need to chase another championship.
