Shinsuke Nakamura has defeated LA Knight at the WWE Survivor Series: War Games to become the new WWE United States Champion. While this comes as a major boost to the King of Strong Style, the entire booking felt rather weird.
Over the past few months, LA Knight has held the title in a rather mediocre run and unlike some of the other US Championship holders, he hasn’t been able to have much impact to begin with. That said, two weeks ago, when Nakamura came back and launched a surprise attack on LA Knight, that felt odd too.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs LA Knight at WWE Survivor Series: War Games
While this match was lacklustre to a certain degree, it could be used as a stepping stone to set up a much darker character angle for both Nakamura and LA Knight. For starters, Shinsuke Nakamura has diverted from a very vibrant personality to something that’s dark, and LA Knight definitely struggled to keep up with him and his persona in the ring.
Furthermore, with Nakamura being away from programming for so long, this was definitely a must-win match for him. However, the finish did feel a bit rushed, especially when it involved a wrestler who hadn’t lost a match since June this year when he won the title off Logan Paul. All it took Nakamura was a DDT followed by a Kinhasa to pick up the victory.
Now, LA Knight is likely to have a rematch clause that he can invoke at any time he wants, but it’ll likely be some time before we see these two stars face off in the ring once again. Following this loss, it’s likely that the Creative team will look into their bookings of LA Knight, giving him more a meaningful approach to his storyline and character.
As for Nakamura, the King of Strong Style, or in this case the King of Dark Style should ideally be a fighting champion, so that the United States title gets some sort of recognition, which it didn’t really get when LA Knight was holding onto the championship. With SmackDown still a week away, the fallout from this match will be something to look forward to, and is likely to carry through the end of this year.
