In
Apple's "exciting week of announcements," where the company announced several new M4-powered Macs, it also gave its "most popular laptop" a surprise upgrade. The MacBook Air lineup will now come standard with 16GB of RAM, doubling the previous 8GB base configuration while maintaining existing prices. The change applies to both M2 and M3 MacBook Air models.
The 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip will continue to start at Rs. 99,900, while the M3 model begins at Rs. 1,14,900. The 15-inch M3 MacBook Air starts at Rs. 1,34,900. Previously, upgrading to 16GB RAM costed an additional Rs. 20,000.
The RAM upgrade comes as Apple shifts its entire Mac lineup to a minimum of 16GB of unified memory, following similar moves with this week's announcements of the M4 iMac, M4 Mac mini, and M4 MacBook Pro models. The change appears aimed at supporting
Apple Intelligence, the company's artificial intelligence features that require additional memory resources.
"MacBook Air is the world's most popular laptop, and with Apple Intelligence, it's even better," Apple said in its announcement. The company also increased the maximum RAM configuration to 24GB at no additional cost for higher-end models.
The upgraded configurations are already available through Apple's online store, retail locations, and authorised resellers. The complete pricing for the MacBook Air lineup in India is:
