Signing off from #COP29. Another memorable experience that refused to be marred by recent geopolitical turbulence across the Atlantic by delegates driven by the urgency for change and action. I’m so proud of my country for announcing its increased ambition on climate at a time of apparent drought on such leadership 🇬🇧 But merely exporting our emissions is not enough. We must not shy away from investing in the energy transition both home and abroad. Climate finance is not a charity, it is about justice for our legacy on this planet and its peoples. A special shout out to all the young 🇦🇿volunteers (3,000+). Their exposure to the preeminent global conference on climate will inspire the next generation of youth activists in a country that must diversify its economy at pace. COP has never ran so smoothly, and your enthusiasm and passion did not go unnoticed. The anti-COP hot takes appear to miss this point. Sağol 🙏🏼

Earlier this month, we had the privilege of hosting thought leaders and experts in Cape Town for #EvTalks, an engaging forum that highlighted Africa's pivotal role in global energy dynamics and explored the opportunities and challenges within the I-REC market. South Africa’s energy landscape is at a turning point. 70% of the country’s electricity generation comes from coal, but it is now embarking on a transformative journey to reshape its energy sector - aiming to decarbonise its economy while diversifying its energy mix. With an estimated solar potential of 6,000 gigawatts and wind potential of 6,700 gigawatts, South Africa can leverage its natural resources to position itself as a leader in the renewable energy market. Government-led initiatives like the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), which has attracted over R200 in private investment, are playing a critical role in this transition. As well as reducing emissions, the transition to a clean economy will also provide jobs and strengthen South Africa’s energy security.
