We’re approaching tipping points that risk pushing the world outside the safe corridor of life – the only temperature span that we know to be able to provide conditions for humans to thrive. Current actions are wildly insufficient and put both ourselves and future generations at huge risk. What is the biggest threat to the environmental movement in Europe? Maybe it is our lurch to the far right... Reform UK "Net zero means reducing man made CO2 emissions to stop climate change. It can’t. Climate change has happened for millions of years, before man made CO2 emissions, and will always change. We are better to adapt to warming, rather than pretend we can stop it. Up to 10 times more people die of cold than warmth." Nordic Populism: All parties have continuously framed climate policy in terms of “urban elites” versus “the people” outside the city centres, in the most typical populist tradition. AFD Germany: The far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) challenges the scientific consensus on climate, and describes climate policy as “hysteria”. Italy's Environment Minister: Gilberto Pichetto Fratin “if the climate is changing, it is because of the climate … I do not know how much climate change is due to man and how much to the Earth's [natural] climate change." As the climate warms, migration northwards increases, fuelling anti-immigration beliefs and charging far right populism. We have to take control of the narrative - renewable energy protects homes, livelihoods, business. We divorce ourselves from corrupt autocratic regimes, we take back control of our energy supply.
