An insight into the highs and lows of launching a new product… Last month Subco Engineering invested a lot of time and effort into an application for the Innovate UK Launchpad Scheme for the North East region targeting Innovations in Digital Technology… Recently, we found out we were unsuccessful ☹ Out of 107 applications only 22 were selected – and our innovative platform was not one of them. Rejection hurts, it knocks your confidence and makes you question your ideas and abilities. But luckily for us at Subco Engineering, we enjoy challenges! The funding would have helped fast track the development of our platform, but sometimes the best products are the ones hand-built by those that use them most. We’ve got this far on our own bootstraps and we are not letting one small funding hurdle slow us down. Congratulations to all those great projects that were successful in their applications!   Had a great day at Meet Magento UK yesterday. You know when you’re really busy and think there’ll be 1 or 2 talks that you can duck out of to make calls… definitely not this conference. I really enjoyed all the Business track talks, great programming by Jamie Huskisson 👏, and loved that they gave a voice to new speakers too. My top 10 takeaways from the Business Track sessions: 1. Everything needs a business problem, don’t be “powered by FOMO” 2. Pace of change has increased and is only going to continue 3. To create a culture of change you need to be at ease with fail fast 4. Less retailers considering wholesale transformational change and preferring CO and delivering projects in manageable chunks 5. Great to see speakers championing asking the customer what they want as well as the importance of data and creating unified customer data to drive business strategy 6.  Look at your full funnel engagement not just your sites / apps; the growing value of social channels for all ages, including grandparents and grandchildren (pester power), and show the love to SEO 7. Use your data to assess profitability per channel and per product - no one- size fits all approach 8. Interesting concept (for selling Experiences) about “kill the basket”, check out quickly through express payments and then build up the booking after sale, through app/CRM 9. Importance of business change and training (which we all know but is often sadly overlooked), get an ecommerce coach on your project 10. Pick the right technology, and get the right team onboard and get them to love the data and tech that you’ve invested in. Also enjoyed seeing old friends, clients and partners and meeting new ones. With running https://lnkd.in/eRqTtkX8 in my spare time, I'm always looking for ways of streamlining processes to shave a bit more time off here and there. This weekend involved me trying to find quicker ways of getting data on my eBay purchases integrated with my existing data sources. After battling with eBay's API documentation on authentication, I've now ended up with: - a custom page within my model-driven App that shows my recent purchases - Buttons that allow me to create a Dataverse entry for a purchase in one click - once added, the option is then greyed out to prevent duplication - a button to add the item to a Microsoft To-Do list that I use to keep track of what is due to arrive so that I know to check if something is late. So we recently had a company reach out to us, due to their IT not responding to them, infact it took them 3 weeks to respond in one instance and then that was only after repeated phone calls and emails. What would you do if you had an IT Emergency and you couldn't reach your IT Team? I personally had a friend I know from business networking groups reach out to us after a potential data breach (It wasn't) but he called us for help as his current IT Provider wasn't responding and he knew that this was a time sensitive thing. It took one of our Engineers 4 minutes to look at the situation and realise that it wasn't a data breach, however what if this had been? I should also add they are moving over to us now as well, so they will be getting improved response times :) #itsupport #responsetime #databreach #cybersecurity #missioncritical

What a fantastic couple of days as an Activity Host at LeadDev London! Lots of incredible speakers and inspiring conversations. During the first break, I had the honour of co-hosting a table talk with Laura Tacho, Martha Moniz & Nsikan Essien on the topic: "How can I tell if my team is doing well?" It was a packed session with some really great discussions. There was more content than I could fit into a single post, so here are some key themes we explored: 📈 Metrics - The importance of using a holistic set to avoid team gaming and unhealthy competition. 🤝 Trust - Be open about what you are measuring, and why. 🙋‍♀️ Ownership - Give teams ownership of their own success. Empower them to make decisions and choose ways of working and KPIs that make sense for them. 💥 Impact - What company goals are your team impacting? Find ways to quantify these - e.g. ARR, NPS, etc. ❓ Surveys - Use regular engagement and pulse surveys to ask people how they are feeling. 😎 Vibes - A popular approach it seems: ask the team in 1:1s, retrospectives, etc. Assuming there is a foundation of openness and trust, what better way to find out than to have a conversation? What would you add to the mix?
