With ‘vÄäristymä 2014 - 2024’, they prove once again that they are not only innovators, but also true explorers of new sonic possibilities. This record is a must for lovers of experimental electronics and avant-garde sound, and confirms that vÄäristymä have managed to create a sound world that is, to all intents and purposes, unique. www.versacrum.com/vs/2024/09/vaaristyma-vaaristyma-2014-2024.htmlFavorite track: Ulvoo (Live 2023).

Raffaele and Manuele are right: vÄäristymä is totally unique in the sphere of electronic music. I assume the efforts, the blood, sweat, and tears of building your own instruments can craft a singular sound. Some tracks did appear on previous compilations but a whole album? I'm totally hooked.
vÄäristymä music ought to cause the radars of those much attuned to the sounds of the Revenant Sea to start tweaking incessantly, for somewhere out there this darkly shrouded leviathanic colossus stirs from the shadows, its echoing opines as old as time, its call sign chill dipped in brooding desolation, its space without end, containment or boundary. Here a mournful majesty unfurls amid the spectral detail of the sparsely set aching arcs, haunting yet hymnal in resonance and very much nodding to the work of Bebe and Louis Baron. As listener as well as a publisher of predominantly electronic and experimental music, the main issue I face daily is finding musical projects that have their own originality and don't give me the sensation of "heard it all before." Let's call it the side effect of tech globalization. When I listen to vÄäristymä, I forget that this problem exists. Raffaele Pezzella (publisher, musician, Italy)
I've always admired artists who build their own instruments. Creating a unique sound is a massive challenge. That's why I was drawn to the vÄäristymä duo, which stands out for its sonic experimentation. Bringing Jarko and Janne into the New Polar Sound and Tischenko Gallery scene was a fascinating and enriching experience. Their 10-year release from 2014 to 2024, ideated alongside Raffaele Pezzella, gives a crucial glimpse into their distinctive sound. Manuele Frau (musician, NPS curator, Italy)
Once we got the Amiga, creating music meant starting from scratch and experimenting on our own. At that time our technical skills were so lacking that we recorded our first song using a video camera pointed at the screen speakers. Later, with the addition of a microphone, cassette recording became an easier process. Eventually we discovered the direct transfer of sound to a cassette recorder via RCA cables. At some point, tracker programs entered the scene, enabling easy and systematic serial production. However, with samples and patterns, the music became repetitive, dull and clinical. The purchase of a true analog synthesizer, the Roland SH-101, marked a turning point in our musical journey, taking us in a more unpredictable and intriguing direction. Over time, Janne's homemade electronic circuits became an integral part of our setup. As these circuits evolved into larger synthesizers, we gradually abandoned computers and factory-made equipment. Today, all of our sounds are generated by homemade devices.

VÄÄRISTYMÄ vÄäristymä 2014 – 2024 (Unexplained Sounds Group, UGS101 / New Polar Sound, NPS007): Raffaele Pezzella aka Sonologyst has paid tribute to Lovecraft, Stoker, Fulci, Cronenberg, Argento, and Tarkovsky on Eighth Tower Records. As a curator of USG, he has presented “Songs from an Obscure Matriarchal Tribe” by Darja Kazimira & Zura Makharadze and anthologized post-industrial, electroacoustic, contemporary, and experimental music from all over the world. Andrey Tischenko, from the Tischenko Gallery in Helsinki, which specializes in Folk & Tribal Arts, has published works by Nona Et Decima, Sándor Vály, Purba Tuve, and Corrado Altieri on NPS. Like Pezzella, he has a ‘stereoscopic vision’ that goes 'beyond the Logic of Science' and ears attuned to ‘The Double Side of Nature.’ Here, they gather music generated with DIY synthesizers, sequencers, oscillators, etc., by Janne Liimatainen & Jarko Hedenius, two brothers from Helsinki: two tracks each from the ETR split “Minimalia Nocturna” and “Välivaihe,” as well as contributions previously included in USG compilations and excerpts from their “Taiteiden yö/Night of the Arts” live performance on 17.08.2023 at the Tischenko Gallery. Inventiveness and a spirit of discovery—‘On the Verge of Discovery’—are combined here with an outer space vector—‘Crab Nebula.’ From the ‘Realm of Strings’ and stone tapping into the radio wave range—‘Radio Burst.’ And further out, into droning, buzzing waves with pulsating electro beats, where heartbeats, singing bowls, steam engines, and motors seem to echo, pound, and reverberate as ancestors. Even with leaky valves, uneven rhythms, and faint tinkles. From troll dances and Bebe & Louis Barron to Starship Enterprise, it’s just a small quantum leap—‘Quantum Teleportation.’ A tipping effect, and already we’re descending with stamping, creaking, and cascading sounds into times howled by wolves—‘Howling,’ and ghosts—‘Apparently,’ paranoid and desperate, into the dark chambers of the mind—‘A Coffin for the Insane,’ ‘Suspicion.’ With the irony that the sounds are either bird-brained or a little unhinged. Leading up to the foghorn-like wail of ‘Koteloitua.’

Glitchy sounds tripping over full rounded bass notes, and melodies that self destruct before your ears. It doesn’t surprise me that I’ve never heard anything like this before. They build their own instruments. Now, that’s about as DIY as it gets. This is a perfect soundtrack to a horror film. I would love to hear this as part of an art installation.

A dive in Lovecraft’s universe. From Dark to experimental and ritual ambient all at the highest level possible, for a unforgettable trip in madness and darkness. Unexplained Sounds Group
A chilling collection of All Hallows’s Eve horrorphonia, a little something touched with a hauntologists bleakness and certainly ripe for companion listening with similar audio manifestations. Unexplained Sounds Group
Sonologyst is hard to label as one particular music style –except experimental or avant-garde, but that’s probably also a style or at least a different approach in dealing with music. Unexplained Sounds Group

The musicians involved have brilliantly captured the film's haunting sci-fi atmospheres, crafting tracks that resonate deeply with the eerie and contemplative mood of the original. Each piece feels like an extension of Stalker, almost as if it were an alternate soundtrack, perfectly aligning with the film's mysterious and otherworldly landscape. This album is not just a tribute; it's a powerful reimagining that honors the film's legacy while offering a fresh auditory experience. Brilliant! david_86

Omega is characterised by dark and ritualistic atmospheres, typical of dark ambient, but what makes Die Sonne Satans' sound unique is the use of sound samples taken from everyday objects. Beltrame has always shown an extraordinary ability to decontextualise common sounds, transforming them into sonic textures that evoke desolation, mystery and a perpetual tension towards the unknown. https://www.versacrum.com/vs/2024/09/die-sonne-satans-omega.html Caesar
