POLICY ON THE RECRUITMENT OF EX-OFFENDERS
Diversity includes. Inclusion empowers. And when we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives together. That’s why we continue to strengthen our long-standing commitment to efforts such as inclusive hiring and development and equitable pay for all. Apple recognises that each employee contributes a wealth of perspectives to our culture. We seek to tap into this extraordinary resource and incorporate it into how we do business with our customers and communities. At Apple, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected characteristics such as (but not limited to) gender, race, ethnic group, disability, or religion when recruiting, hiring, and promoting. We welcome applications from a wide range of candidates, including those with criminal records. We treat all applicants fairly and do not discriminate unlawfully against the subject of a disclosure on the basis of conviction or other information revealed. Apple uses HireRight to conduct background checks on candidates, which can include criminal records checks (also known as a DBS check in England and Wales and an AccessNI Disclosure in Northern Ireland). We will request a criminal records check only where this is considered proportionate and relevant to the particular role, based on a risk assessment of that role and the relevant legislation. Where a criminal records check is deemed necessary for a role, applicants will be made aware at recruitment stage that any successful candidate will be required to complete an appropriate criminal records check as a prerequisite to employment. Apple only seeks information about convictions which we are legally entitled to know about, which are defined as “not protected”. Apple will discuss the content of any adverse criminal records check with you before withdrawing an offer of employment. Apple may withdraw an offer of employment or terminate your employment if you fail to reveal information that is directly relevant to the role. Having a criminal record will not necessarily disqualify you for a role at Apple. This will depend on the nature of the position, the circumstances and background of your offences and any other information contained on a disclosure. You can find further information about careers at Apple at Apple.com, or by reviewing the codes of practice issued by DBS, Disclosure Scotland or AccessNI.
