Why book?
This 350-acre, amenities-packed beachfront oasis ticks all the boxes when you’re looking for relaxation, adventure, culture, and unique Nevisian hospitality—making it the perfect luxurious escape for couples, families, and friends.
Set the scene
After a 15-minute taxi from St. Kitts airport and a 15-minute ferry ride to cross the two-mile channel, my husband and I arrived at Four Seasons Resort Nevis. We took one step onto the dock, turned around, and saw the awe-inspiring Nevis Peak, its top ringed by an ever-present cloud halo. This dormant volcano provided a majestic backdrop for the resort—our home base for five days. As we accepted a warm hand towel from the gracious Four Seasons staff, we instantly melted into a state of relaxation, a recurring theme for the duration of our trip. Celebrating more than 33 years of authentic Caribbean hospitality, the resort combines that world-class Four Seasons service with the ease and laid-back attitude of the Caribbean—what Nevisions call “limin.” Everyone we encountered simply exuded friendliness.
The backstory
Sitting on the site of a former sugar and coconut plantation from the late 1790s, the sprawling property encompasses the resort, as well as 39 private rental retreats and 80 residential units. With walking trails throughout the property, we meandered through the various neighborhoods (making it feel very homey) and checked out the remains of a stone windmill visible from the golf course's second tee. Opened in 1991, the property went through a 2018 redesign.
The rooms
Tucked into two-story cottages, the spacious rooms and suites feature a lighter, cleaner, fresher decor, with plenty of light-drenched spaces, lush fabrics, and a massive marble bathroom. Design details echo the chic vibrance of the islands. Wall coverings pay homage to the rich fabrics of 19th century British botanical patterns, now reborn in a trendy sea-foam green reminiscent of frothy shores. The multi-hued geometric carpet dances with the legacy of Caribbean stained-glass windows. And the desk chairs weave a story of Nevis, adorned with nods to its lush flora and playful green vervet monkeys, the iconic ambassadors of the island. Here for a romantic getaway, my husband and I stayed in the luxurious Kalinago king suite overlooking the ocean, with a private patio perfect for just-the-two-of-us lounging.
Food and drink
With seven gourmet restaurants and bars, the resort offers a wide range of dining experiences that capture the culture and flavors of Nevis. The resort hosts an ample breakfast buffet each morning at EsQuilina, the main restaurant, which often turns out to be a better deal than ordering à la carte. Here, we indulged in made-to-order omelets; fresh, local fruit; seafood; muesli; breads and pastries; and home-fried potatoes. This restaurant, as well as the others, serve lunch and dinner, too, tapping into local seafood like lobster and red snapper. At the beachfront On the Dune, we enjoyed a rum tasting experience with master mixologist Kendie Williams (creator of the resort’s must-try “Kendie’s Kick” craft cocktail) with clear views of neighboring St. Kitts in the distance.
The spa
The 12,000-square foot facility features 11 treatment rooms, including six gingerbread-trimmed treatment cottages. The outdoor relaxation area boasts an antique sugar copper fountain and lush gardens. A volcanic-stone hot water pool and Japanese-inspired cold plunge pool are tucked in the back, offering ample lounge seating with breathtaking views of Nevis Peak. The Spa’s Herb Garden taps the island’s organic bounty, growing plants used in treatments, rituals, and teas. The Signature Treatment, a 65-minute Nevisian Massage, pays homage to local spices and herbs, blending them with exotic scents of West Indies.
The neighborhood/area
Nestled along Pinney's Beach, the property sits just minutes from museums, plantation homes, and historic churches dating to the 1600s. While the property isn’t within walking distance of most historical sites, guests can rent bikes from local vendors (like Bike Nevis) or hire a taxi to get around. We took a terrific tour, with the local guide filling us in on historical background, anecdotes, and fun tidbits. For instance, though visitors love spotting green vervet monkeys, many locals consider them a nuisance as the cute creatures raid their gardens, scatter trash, and damage their property in search of food.
For families
This family-friendly resort offers a Kids For All Seasons program, family movie nights, kite-making activity, and more—plus complimentary kids’ menu meals for children ages five and under. While we saw families enjoying the pools, the property is so large that it never felt overrun by little ones.
Eco effort
Deeply committed to sea turtle conservation, Four Seasons Resort Nevis has partnered with the Sea Turtle Conservancy for over 15 years to educate and raise awareness while supporting research on migration patterns and species recovery.
Anything left to mention?
With so much to do onsite, we barely left the property. The amenities-packed resort boasts nine tennis courts; a Robert Trent Jones II golf course; three infinity-edge pools; walking trails; onsite beach; fitness center; private cabanas; water activities (boating, fishing, windsurfing, etc.); and experiences like dialect classes and rum tasting. Locals say more than 30,000 green vervet monkeys live on the island, with early morning and late afternoon the best time for monkey spotting.
