A stony-faced Tony Abbott has been caught on camera looking less than impressed after Treasurer Scott Morrison handed down his first Budget.

While his Liberal Party colleagues gave Mr Morrison a standing ovation after he finished his Budget speech in Canberra on Tuesday night, the former prime minister looked a little reluctant as he rose from his backbench seat.

Cameras captured Mr Abbott giving the Treasurer three half-hearted claps before slowly rising from his seat - noticeably behind all of his fellow MPs.

Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer was one of the first to rise when Mr Morrison wrapped up his speech saying 'I commend the Turnbull government's economic plan for jobs and growth and this bill to the House'.

This time last year, Mr Abbott was supporting then Treasurer Joe Hockey as he delivered the Abbott government's second Budget.

But fast forward 12 months and Mr Abbott was forced to take a backbench seat in his capacity as the Member for Waringah after he was toppled by Malcolm Turnbull in September.

Mr Abbott and Mr Morrison, who were once allies, have reportedly remained on cool terms ever since he was replaced by Mr Turnbull.

The morning after Mr Morrison handed down his first Budget, federal MPs had their say including Opposition Leader Bill Shorten who argued favoured the millionaires over the battlers.

'I think this budget was meant to be Malcolm Turnbull's big justification for rolling Tony Abbott, but at the end of listening to Scott Morrison last night I thought is that what all the fuss is about?,' he said.
