Wolves defender Jonny Otto was reportedly exiled from the first team after swinging an elbow towards an U21 player.

Jonny hasn't played for his club since the end of September, and it seems unlikely he will again after a training ground bust-up that saw him also reportedly damage players' things and spit at a member of the coaching staff.

The player Jonny is said to have clashed with is forward Tawanda Chirewa, who joined from Ipswich in 2019. He has scored two goals in three Premier League 2 games this season and has been on the bench for Wolves in their last three matches.

Wolves confirmed last week that Jonny would train away from the Wolves first team until the end of January, with many believing all parties would seek for the Spaniard to secure a move away in the transfer window.

And it appears, following a report from The Athletic, that the reasons why are now clear.

Reports claim he swung an elbow at a player and spat at a member of the coaching staff

The incident is claimed to have happened on the training ground, with Jonny sent home after destroying items in the players' room

Jonny is believed to have attacked Chirewa during a clash in a training session at Compton Park.

He is then claimed to have spat at a member of the coaching staff that tried to pull him away from the clash, and then going onto damage items in the players' room.

It is said that Jonny was angered by a challenge from Chirewa in training, in the build-up to Wolves's 2-1 loss to Arsenal at The Emirates on December 2. He is not said to have made contact with the attempted elbow.

Chirewa is believed to have finished the session, though Jonny was ordered to leave the field and go into the buildings at the training ground, where it is claimed he smashed a TV and damaged a table before being sent home.

Jonny has since apologised for the incident and is allowed to feature in youth team matches.

Wolves sporting director, Matt Hobbs has explained how the future has been outlined to Jonny and how the club look to move forward.

'I've sat down with him, he's apologised, and we have outlined the way forward,' Hobbs said. 'We had a conversation and have agreed that at least until the end of the January window he won't be part of the first-team group.

'He will still be training at the club and, if he chooses, he can play for the under-21s to keep up his match sharpness, and I think, knowing him, he'll probably do that.

'This is a guy who has been a great servant to the football club. One incident doesn't define the role he's played during the successful times and the man he is day to day around the place.

'Everybody has moments and that's all it was, but we have to deal with it and move forward for the wider group.

'It might seem big because someone's been removed from the group, but it's not,' said Hobbs.

'When you're trying to create a culture, keeping everything aligned, sometimes things happen which aren't what you want to be and where we want to go.

Manager Gary O'Neil addressed the news last week and hinted that Jonny, who has made 134 appearances for Wolves since 2018, could return to the first team squad.

The matter however, according to Hobbs, is something beyond the manager's control.

'Now it's dealt with,' Hobbs added. It's not something Gary's had to deal with, we've dealt with it as a football club and allowed Gary to focus on getting the team ready for the important games coming up.

'It makes sense to take it up to then because a lot of things can change between now and then, and then we'll sit down, talk again and decide the way forward.

'December's a busy month with lots of points to play for and lots of games we feel we can be really competitive in. That always has to be the focus.'
