Olivia Rodrigo has been crowned an honorary Aussie after immersing herself in local culture since touching down on her Guts tour.

The American pop star, 21, was given the plaudit during an appearance on The Project on Thursday, when she gave an insight into some of her new Aussie habits.

She revealed she has indulged in her love of 'thrift shopping', known Down Under as 'op shopping', while on the Melbourne leg of her Australian Guts tour.

Olivia revealed the one very Australian item she had picked up during her visits to the shops, which saw her crowned an honorary citizen.

'We also saw that you were doing some op-shopping as we call it here - thrift shopping as you crazy Americans like to call it,' panelist Sam Taunton said.

'You're someone who could have anything in the world. What do you love about op shopping?'

'I've been on tour for a while so it's really fun to get to go to different cities and see what little trinkets and treasures you can find,' Olivia revealed.

'I found some cool T-shirts and stuff. It's a great time.'

Host Waleed Ali chimed in to ask Olivia what was her favourite T-shirt purchase on her op-shopping expeditions.

'I was in Melbourne the other day and I got a T-shirt that says: "Hi, I'm from Victoria," and I thought it was really cute, even though I'm not from Victoria,' Olivia said.

Panelist Georgie Tunny then jumped in to insist Olivia could take the title of honorary Australian following her purchase.

'We like to claim anyone and everyone so from now on I'm afraid technically you are an honorary Aussie,' she proudly declared.

'I love it,' Olivia replied with a smile. 'I'm happy to join the club.'

It's not the first Aussie-themed garment the Vampire hitmaker has nabbed on her Down Under trip.

She revealed she has bought a T-shirt reading 'Hi, I'm from Victoria', after she was seen wearing a top with 'Vegemite just be in love' printed across it while on stage in Melbourne

On her opening night, she sported a tank top with the phrase 'Bad Idea, I reckon?' - a playful twist on her hit track Bad Idea, Right? and a fun reference to Australia's laidback lingo.

She kept the theme going on night two, stepping out in a crop top emblazoned with the word 'Crikey!' – a shout-out to the quintessential Aussie catchphrase.

And at her third show in the city on Sunday night, the pop star made waves with a quirky tank top featuring a Vegemite-themed message.

She sported a stylish top with the slogan 'Vegemite just be in love' printed across it while she belted out her hit Good 4 U.

Olivia also gave another nod to Aussie culture as she tried out Tim Tams in an amusing TikTok video.

She later continued her candied culinary adventure Down Under, sharing a snap on social media of a stash of Caramello Koala chocolates.

But it hasn't all been smooth-sailing on her trip Down Under as Olivia suffered an unfortunate mishap when she fell through the stage during her final Melbourne show.

She took to the stage in front of around 14,000 fans at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on Monday for her fourth and final concert in the city.

She put on her usual high-energy performance but left fans horrified during one tense moment when she suddenly fell through a hole in the stage.

Thankfully, Olivia managed to catch her hands on the edge of the stage and clamber back up on stage, sharing her shock at the unexpected fall with the crowds.

Sounding shaken, she assured her fans she was unharmed as she said: 'Oh my God! That was fun, I'm OK! Sometimes there is just a hole in the stage, OK... where was I?'

Olivia has since travelled to Sydney and sent fans while when she performed at the Qudos Bank Arena.

She has just three shows remaining on her Australian Guts tour at the same venue on October 18, 21 and 22.
