when a client is faced with unexpected life changes, it's natural that they are going to feel overwhelmes and scared due to the uncertainty. The first thing to do is to acknowledge their feelings and empathise with them. Give them space to open up and listen actively without judging. this makes them feel heard. Gently shift their focus on something that is in control for them. And help them identify just 1 small action that they feel they can currently take that will help at this moment. This helps them feel in control because it shifts the focus to things under control. Get them do that 1 thing everyday that they feel is in their control with respect to the task at hand. This gradually helps them build the required resilience.

One of the most important things is to show empathy and support. The world is highly unpredictable and one needs to be gentle with others. I would give the client all the support they need and would regularly check on them. I would give them the bandwidth that they can come and talk to me about things which are bothering them. I would be gentle and extra sensitive in the scenario. There would be no pressure of sense of urgency instilled in the client from my end. By fostering a nurturing bond, they can communicate better and ease up the process to get back on track.
