Question the project manager to know what factors really lead to delay. Get your team together for an hour, and brainstorm what you can do next: 🎯Is it possible to make up for the delay by taking on additional resources, spending more money etc.? 🎯Is it possible to reduce the scope of the project? (and gain time) 🎯Create a powerpoint or Excel where you list all the possible alternatives to go ahead. Every option. Even if it is unpopular. You want to make sure you haven’t overlooked any option! List down the implications of each option (“if we go for this way, we will have problems with X later”). 🎯Share the options with your team and take a decision. Include management and/or your steering committee if necessary.

I would do following: 1. To review priorities and prioritise works which are not material constrained. To do it properly resource allocation according to scope of work will be required. 2. Enhance communication with suppliers and logistics. From experience issues with them sometimes easy to solve. 3. To replace materials discussing with engineering. It’s mostly applicable for bulk items. 4. To search similar materials on another ongoing projects around. Borrow and return when arrived.

Question is vague to start with. First i would say is evaluate your critical path of project schedule. Identify the delayed materials affect the critical path. If yes, then find ways if other means of expediting such as request Supplier to take extra time to lessen or mitigate the delays. Also check options of fast delivery such as air freight if possible. In construction part you may need to increase the resources and or have extra working hours or even plan for day and night shift. Also try to work on other non critical activities if possible.
