Subtle Medical is on an excellent path: far better MRI results in less time per scan. A complete no-brainer for radiologists/ imaging centers.
“Wow.” That was the immediate reaction from our first #SubtleHD™ customer as they compared a standard spine #MRI to a 63% faster scan processed with SubtleHD. For years, #radiology has accepted the tradeoff between imaging speed and quality—but with SubtleHD, that compromise is over. It’s not just about maintaining diagnostic image quality at faster speeds; it’s about delivering stunning HD images that help radiologists read faster, reduce burnout, and even surpass standard-of-care quality—all while drastically cutting scan times. We’re not just accelerating imaging. We’re "annihilating" scan times. (Stole that line from Dr Amine Korchi). 😉 Book a demo to see it for yourself 👉 https://lnkd.in/gxf4aYH2 Lawrence Tanenbaum Suzie Bash Cathrine Keller Blake Johnson #AI #Deeplearning #Innovation #SubtleELITE #SubtleMR #SubtleMedical

We've been super impressed by Dexmate/ Tao Chen, and many of the choices that they've made: There are vast categories of work that get unlocked if robotic manipulators were more dextrous. The fact that our world has been built around human hands as the standard "manipulator form factor" means that if someone can make highly dextrous hands, many current human tasks could be performed by a robot. This team is very thoughtful around this one task. They are well recognized in the field for their work with hands (their team won "best paper" awards at several of the most prestigious robotics conferences). If you look at their unit, they have made very clever trade-offs. The unit is not a biped-- having to make a humanoid robot balance on legs/ feet is technically challenging and energy intensive, but doesn't actually make the robot significantly more functional. These guys have a bright future
Introducing Vega: our first general-purpose robot developed in under 6 months at Dexmate. 🤖 ✨ 🦾 High-payload arms for heavy lifting 🖐 Dexterous hands for challenging manipulation tasks 📏 Foldable torso & arms -- compact for transport, yet reaches up to 7'2" ⚙️ Omni-directional base movement for superior mobility 🔋 10+ hour operation time, say goodbye to frequent recharging Incredibly proud of our team's innovation. What would you use Vega for? Stay tuned for the release of our real robot. 🚀 🛜 Learn more here: https://www.dexmate.ai/

We love seeing the small things that individual entrepreneurs do to make life easier. We recently met the founders of screenpipe (Matthew Diakonov and Louis Beaumont)-- a really cool long-term data capture platform for AI agents. One thing that we really liked was a super-well organized "investor front-door" (not as "in the weeds" as a dataroom, but much better than just a deck). It contains: -- their frequent update newsletters (I love getting a dynamic view of how the business evolves over time) -- their current pitch deck -- a video presentation of them pitching, so that we can get the voice-over in addition to the slides -- link to schedule calls We mentioned in the meeting that we would steal this idea for our own start-ups, and Matthew responded: "oh, I should just opensource that". 5 hours later, he sent this repository: https://lnkd.in/eudKj7q6 Any entrepreneurs want a clean and easy-to-use investor portal? This is how you do it! (side note: entrepreneurs like Matthew and Louis are special)

The Information's Steve LeVine has been the deepest reporter on the battery industry. He's never been a blind cheerleader for the industry (and in fact, of late, he's been beating the drum on the current bloodbath in the sector). This is a good piece: a profile of the "next wave" of battery start-ups, including an extensive profile of (Foothill Ventures portco) UNIGRID Battery, plus mentions of Coreshell , Ascend Elements, South 8 Technologies, and AM Batteries . The "first wave" (eg Sila Nano, Group14, Quantumscape, etc) are great companies from a technology perspective (and they certainly have tremendous talent). But it is possible that they didn't hit the window exactly right, which is hard. We remain bullish on the sector as a whole. It is not often that a trillion-dollar sector goes through a period of rapid disruption, which is what is now happening in the energy sector. Batteries are a vital piece of this puzzle. Last month, we hosted the AI+Photonics Founder & Funder Summit, we know this was a niche space - but we also knew the impact photonics will have on AI, data centers, and the future of computing. What didn't expect was just how strong, passionate and engaged this community truly is. This event was packed with leading investors, visionary founders and deep tech experts. Seeing this level of enthusiasm has only reinforced reinforced our belief in the importance of creating spaces for deep tech discussions and strengthening this incredible community. If you're working at the intersection of Photonics, AI, and data centers, let’s continue the conversation. Check out our event recap video to see the energy, insights, and connections that made this event so special! #ai #datacenter #photonics #deeptech

There approximately 34 Lithium-ion battery Gigafactories planned, under construction, or in operation across the U.S. — but are they being built to be future-proof? Advances in Li-ion technologies being delivered today offer a tremendous opportunity to leapfrog the conventional manufacturing process. South 8’s liquified gas (LiGas) electrolyte, paired with AM Batteries’ dry electrodes, are poised to transform Lithium-ion battery manufacturing in the U.S. Together, South 8 Technologies and AM Batteries can: Reduce CapEx by 30%+ Cut OpEx by 50%+ Slash Energy Consumption by 75% These advances enable a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective domestic supply chain - while raising the bar for American competitiveness in the race for Li-ion batteries production. Yet another golden nugget from Carta's Peter Walker. We had not seen "graduation rates" visualized in this format-- this is an extremely useful document for founders and investors trying to plan the path from pre-seed to growth rounds.
Founders - will you make the leap from Series A to Series B? For a "normal" cohort (say Q2 2018 in the chart below) perhaps 40% of companies that raise a Series A will end up raising a Series B within 3 years. For those that raised the A in early 2020, things got pretty wild. More than 50% got to the B in 3 years - and 40% did so in just 2 years. But then the funding cliff hit, interest rates changed, the world flipped, and graduation rates from Series A to Series B starting to decline. Of startups that raised their Series A in Q1 2022, only about 20% will have made it to Series B in 3 years. Now it 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 that many Series A companies are choosing not to raise. Maybe they got to profitability and don't need the capital. Maybe their Series A was large and they've spent it wisely. Maybe they raised a little bridge money and are okay building for now. Maybe, maybe. But for many, they would love a Series B and just can't get there. I really think the graduation rates for the cohorts from Q2 2022 thru Q3 2023 are just going to be permanently lower. Those founders got caught in a vortex of change. But I'm hopeful about those 2024 Series As! #startups #founders #fundraising #SeriesA #SeriesB Data on startups out every Thursday morning - subscribe at the link in graphic below
