ADCOLOR 2024 — a conference celebrating the contributions of people of color working in tech and media — wrapped up last week in Los Angeles! Each year, the conference identifies people of color who’ve gone above and beyond to make a difference in the world of marketing and technology. This year, 6 Googlers were nominated for awards: Maryam Ikuforiji (product marketing manager), Layla Jawad (product marketing manager), Debby Erazo (product marketing manager), Gia Cummings (account manager), Olivia Hoeft (marketing manager), and Adrienne Hayes (VP of global subscriptions & customer growth marketing). While the specifics of each Googlers’ accomplishments vary, they all worked to promote diverse perspectives into their work. “I collaborate with teams across Google and YouTube to showcase diverse narratives and perspectives on our social media platforms," Debby explained. "This involves highlighting a wide range of stories, from exciting new local businesses featured on our Google Small Business channels to celebrating the achievements of diverse creators on our YouTube Advertisers handles. By leveraging the reach of Google products, we can amplify these voices and contribute to a more inclusive and representative online space." Congratulations to all of Google’s ADCOLOR 2024 nominees!

With Google Quantum AI, we’re introducing AlphaQubit: an AI-based system that can more accurately identify errors inside quantum computers. 🖥️ Here’s why this is important. ↓ Certain problems which would take a classical computer billions of years to solve, can be solved by quantum computers in a few hours. The issue? These systems aren’t as reliable as we’d like. Quantum error correction solves this by: ◾Grouping multiple qubits into a single logical qubit. ◾Making consistency checks. ◾Using a decoder to identify and correct errors from those consistency checks. AlphaQubit achieves a new state-of-the-art in decoding accuracy, helping to make quantum computers more reliable. AlphaQubit shows the potential of machine learning approaches in this space. We look forward to advancing this work, helping pave the way for more stable and reliable quantum systems. ↓ https://goo.gle/3V0rVCo

One of the most profound ways AI will improve lives is by accelerating science and discovery. This week, Demis Hassabis, James Manyika, and other Google leaders hosted our first-ever AI for Science Forum to share some of our recent progress here - from our work on the Nobel Prize-winning AlphaFold, which cracked the “grand challenge” of protein structure prediction, to connectomics research that helped map a tiny portion of the human brain in unprecedented detail to support health research, and much more. AI research breakthroughs are leading to real-world benefits, for example: improvements to our AI model can now accurately predict floods days earlier than previously possible, while our high-resolution satellite imagery can help firefighters spot wildfires before they grow out of control. To help others expand their impact, we're launching a $20 million fund to support academic and nonprofit organizations who are using AI to advance scientific breakthroughs. This is on top of the more than $200 million Google.org has provided for this work over the last five years. AI has massive potential to benefit the world, so we are acting boldly to apply it as quickly as we can, while doing so responsibly. A huge thank you to all of the organizations and researchers around the world driving this important work forward.  More details here: https://lnkd.in/eUdFkANW
