#OTD in 1997, NASA launched the groundbreaking Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn. It was a tremendous yet bittersweet achievement for NASA Lewis (today, NASA Glenn) as it was the 119th, and final, launch managed by the center, bringing to a close a 35-year legacy. The Cassini mission helped scientists uncover the mysteries of Saturn, relaying thousands of images and enabling decades of research. Techniques developed during Cassini have also informed more recent exploration missions, including #EuropaClipper, which launched Oct. 14. Inspired by a field trip, Jennifer Amador set her sights on a NASA career at a young age. Today, she is an aeronautics systems engineer making aviation more sustainable by developing electrified propulsion for aircraft. Her advice to young people: “Talk to someone who is doing what you would like to be doing and say yes to opportunities, even if they are outside of your comfort zone.” Read her full story: https://lnkd.in/g9JP-cxC #HispanicHeritageMonth #HHM24 #NASA #Aviation

When Michael Pepen was growing up, he didn’t see many people who looked like him in leadership roles in science, technology, engineering, and math. Today, he is a chief engineer at NASA Glenn working to establish a durable, powerful, sun-independent energy source for NASA’s lunar and Mars missions. His advice for young people pursuing STEM careers: keep going and never settle. For Abigail Rodriguez, it was an after-school science program in her hometown of Añasco, Puerto Rico, that lit the spark and helped fuel her interest in NASA. While enthusiasm for STEM was a catalyst, ultimately, her resilience and determination led to her success. After completing five NASA internships, two engineering degrees, and a decade of experience with the agency, Abigail now leads safety and mission assurance for our Fission Surface Power Project, which aims to provide power on the Moon and Mars.
