Most scaling Startups and Mid-Market companies have ambitions of being that Enterprise level organization one day. One of biggest advantages of not being Enterprise level yet, is agility. While Enterprises have budget to hire outrageously expensive consultants to do extensive reviews, etc... it slows them down. We live in a time of the next great technological advancement within all aspects of #AI and Startups to Mid-Market companies need to grab that advantage. If you like College Football, I think of Boise State University. Boise State is not lumped in with the likes of The University of Alabama, The University of Texas at Austin or The University of Georgia and so on. They are usually considered a solid mid tier FBS team. But it's a team I wouldn't want to play. Especially with Ashton Jeanty carrying the ball. That man is all over the place; cuts on a dime, powers through when needed, and bounces off defenders without missing a beat. My bets are on him being #Heisman winner and Boise making the playoffs. Boise State and Ashton Jeanty are just like the Mid-Market company that is ready to push through and take on anyone. Not afraid, not shy, agile and willing to make their own destiny. AI is only going forward, and while you are still #agile enough as a company to move quickly and pivot when needed, find yourself an experienced partner like techjays that will help take you to the next level and get an award winning product in the process. My largest 5 stock holdings are Nvidia, Eli Lilly, ServiceNow, Amazon and Microsoft. Amazon just posted very solid earnings. I expect Amazon shares to trade north of 250 USD within 24 months. Amazon ads grew by 24 percent, AWS grew by 17 percent. Subscription revenues also grew north of 20 percent. Trivia: Amazon's AWS revenue over the last 12 months has been $94 billion. This is higher than the revenue of 466 companies in the S&P 500. See the chart from Charlie Bilello for a historic perspective on AWS.

🏁 Bay Area vs. Los Angeles rivalry Exactly 3 years ago we moved to the Bay Area from LA, where I spent most of my life. Since then many have asked me what I feel the differences are. My general breakdown: 👩🏽‍💻 Technology Bay Area > LA - There is no place like the Bay for the sheer quantity and quality of big tech companies, startups, VCs, academic institutions, and talent. LA has Silicon Beach, which focuses mostly on media, entertainment, and consumer tech, while the Bay ecosystem is more diverse and dense. Some claim Silicon Valley has lost its appeal, I’d say the deep-rooted technology ecosystem, going back nearly a century with Bell Labs, HP, Shockley, etc., is not easily replicable. 🌴 Lifestyle Bay Area > LA - As my neighbor accurately put it: “In LA, success is measured by name-brand bags, luxury cars, and big houses. In the Bay, it's by how many exits you've had and the number of boards you're on." Both are ego driven, but I’d take the latter. LA > Bay Area - The cost of living in the Bay is infamously insane. (Cost of living in San Francisco is 23% higher than the state average and 71% higher than the national average. Housing is 187% more expensive than the U.S. average, while utilities are about 42% pricier.) LA > Bay Area - LA takes the crown for its diverse food scene, great restaurants, and affordability. Especially with Asian cuisine, it's hard to compete with the options in the San Gabriel Valley. LA > Bay Area - Style and cultural diversity are stronger in LA. Even though I ❤️ close to 30% of population in the Bay are AAPIs LA > Bay Area - grew up in Purple & Gold Bay Area > LA - Traffic, obvious Bay Area = LA - Weather, which is why we pay the infamous California "weather tax" 👥 People Bay Area > LA - Bay Areafolks are generally much nicer and more courteous than Angelenos. Bay Area > LA - The Bay has the most passionate people I've met when it comes to community involvement, activism, and social/political issues. Ingrained in the DNA and its cultural history. Exciting times in AI workforce development! Intel’s recent commitment to integrate AI education into community colleges starting with Maricopa County Community College District marks a transformative shift in how we view workforce training in the age of AI. Intel plans to reach millions of workers through this initiative by funding AI education and degree programs in states across the country. They have already launched 100 public-private partnerships according to their Chief People Officer Christy Pambianchi. This commitment from Intel is a strategic investment in future-proofing our economy and empowering a diverse range of students with high-demand skills in AI. Cisco just laid off 7% of its workforce (4,000 people) while reporting a $10.3 billion profit. At COREnology, we talk a lot about values. Decisions like this make me wonder what the actual values are at the executive level of this company. The Cisco website has a list of several "guiding principles." WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF SOMEONE LEFT YOU A REVIEW LIKE THIS? "I'd heard such solid reviews and after *decades* of dodging finally tried it. Inedible glop. Although a native Montanan I've lived in Southern California for the past 20 years so might be spoiled for just basic baseline excellence for adequate food at a half-assed food truck level (delicious), but this was proper shite. Shite. SHITE. Like proper you're starving to death with Earnest Shacketon, have already killed the dogs and still turn up your nose at it shite. Please, god. Give me the seal blubber. Give me baby penguins. Give me rancid human flesh. Pekin was sliced canned lunchmeat over a pile of chow problem Costco-fucking mein. Trying to be a good sport, and as a trailer-raised, commodity-nourished rez kid I sampled each portion, gagged, then said f**k it and closed out post haste, embarrassed for myself---nay, disappointed in myself--for not acknowledging each obvious red flag as I recognized it and listening as it came. Took the rest of that plate of half-assed slop to-go because I hate waste. My dog was... semi-delighted? Mildly disappointed? He ate it, un-enthusiastically, to get to his preferred kibble. To be fair, service was polite and competent. Food was notably, notably wretched. Truly, just excrement. I'd rather dine at a gas station. After all, a corn dog and Mountain Dew at least feels like an away game... This is my second Yelp review ever. I mean it." At Big Sky DevCon over the weekend, the first presentation was an excellent discussion of how to handle negative comments, especially when they are as pointed as this one! I would like to add one step to that, "Is it true?" Occasionally, a client will ask me to remove negative comments. That's not going to happen because I'm not a hacker. But, every business owner should ask, "Is it true?" first. In the case of the review above, it is true. I know it's true from having eaten there, even if I would not state it that way. If it's not true, I would suggest following the advice in the presentation.

Fellow in-house taxonomists, ontologists, metadata managers, and semantic wizards: what is the name of the team or business unit that you work within? I have the good fortune of getting to rename the "Content Standards" program I lead at Kaiser Permanente IT. My team has determined that the name is too vague to convey the core activities of the program, and leads to confusion with the cross-functional teams we collaborate with. I'm looking for a clear name that will resonate with stakeholders within my org. So I've got a very classic taxonomist question: What to call the program? 🤔 For some context... What my program is responsible for: - Defining and governing standards for metadata, structured data, taxonomy, and ontology for classifying/structuring digital content - Implementing processes and platforms to good metadata hygiene - Assessment and remediation of content metadata What my program doesn't cover: - Writing or editorial style guides - Content design - Content strategy - Site maps or navigational structure - Data governance Any ideas are most welcome!
