It was an honor to represent the work of my team yesterday at Build. we introduced new features, products and services like 1. Azure Compute fleet which lets you seamlessly scale to 10K VMs using variety of SKUs. 2. VMSS-flex-mix which uses Compute Fleet to provide VMSS customers the ability to scale seamlessly using variety of SKUs. 3. Attach/Detach of VMs to VMSS-flex - this helps customers to scale and get availability guarantees even when you start from a single VM by attaching the running VM to VMSS and scale. 4. Jeff also examines the transition from pairing to mobbing, the challenges of mob programming with CI/CD, and why mobbing helps him “get the whole system in the room” for tackling complex problems. **Quality Without QA?**   We dive into the controversial idea of achieving high quality without traditional Quality Assurance (QA). Jeff opens up about years spent wrestling with the role of QA in Agile/CD environments and shares experiments with “test-infected” developers—who took full ownership of quality. He reflects on the pitfalls of relying on “heavyweight” traditional QA processes and automated tests, which often create lean waste, add handoffs, and introduce brittle, flakey tests. I had the same thought. Polaris is another data catalog that lives in your Snowflake account and the sync with Snowflake data catalog is manual. I would love it if I could access all Snowflake tables through Polaris. That being said, the main use-case Polaris unblocks is to be able to run Spark on top of Snowflake (Iceberg) tables hassle-free and efficiently, there is no need to set up S3 access outside of Snowflake. It's a big deal because you don't need to migrate from Spark to Snowpark unless it's much faster and can use Trino / DuckDB on top of your Snowflake tables. Given that 40% of Snowflake customers are also Databricks customers, that's a good gesture as Snowflake seems to believe in their performance & cost efficiency on the compute layer.

Syntax highlighting, is it as useful as we believe? I've been toying with the idea that syntax highlighting might be causing more harm then good. Apparently there's _some_ articles out there discussing the topic and their approach is pretty diverse. For me, syntax highlighting is powerful way to grok quickly at a file. But as the file gets busier the value of the highlighting starts to diminish it's value. The strongest arguments I've seen FOR highlighting has been regarding string enclosure and closing brackets enclosures. You should code to your preference but this wasn't something I had ever questioned or thought of before! The difference between medicine and poison is the dosage, perhaps there's too much visual noise in today's busy world.

It can't be a coincidence that my favorite band, LinkinPark, is celebrating their comeback in the same year I decided to step away from my current leadership role to become a software engineer again. Damn, it feels good hammering some lines of code on the keyboard while listening to LinkinPark again. 😅🤘🎵 Why did I change my role, you ask? The short answer: less talking, more doing. I’ve always loved leading creative teams and helping people shine. But leadership isn’t only about a title or a place on the organizational chart — it’s about setting an example and inspiring others. As a Principal Software Engineer at Shopware, I see my role as one where I can lead by example, pushing boundaries and driving innovation from the frontlines. It’s a hands-on approach, focused on building and making things happen. This is not a step back, but just another chapter in my career and not the last time I will try to be a good leader. First: Why this is important: Most organizations we work with have some allocation of Macs. They can be as few as 5% of the niche users who love their Macs or as high as 85% for major tech companies on Entra. Managing Macs to arrive at a "Windows like" experience where end users login with their work ID to the device and they get single sign on to all organization apps has been hard if not impossible. Now with the Platform SSO integration with the Platofrm credential underneath, your Mac users can unlock the Mac with a passwordless experience with TouchID, that gives them SSO to all apps, carries an MFA claim and device compliance in a PRT-like experience with cross-app SSO. Just like Windows Hello for Business. If you have Macs, please consider deploying this. Second: A bit of a soap box. I hope the communities of Identity and Security see how committed Microsoft is in general in protecting your entire digital estate, and we are committed to doing it the *right way*. We could have just "stuffed passwords under the covers" we could have just done what everybody else does. But we invested the time to collaborate with Apple, build the integrations that allow a true passwordless login experience that meets the bar for NIST 800-63 AAL3 to secure another vendor's devices, because they are in *your* digital estate and they need to be secured, the right way.
