Jeff explains how mobbing enables "just-in-time" discussions that align teams on what to build and how it allows real-time feedback on other team members’ learning. Jeff also examines the transition from pairing to mobbing, the challenges of mob programming with CI/CD, and why mobbing helps him “get the whole system in the room” for tackling complex problems. **Quality Without QA?**   We dive into the controversial idea of achieving high quality without traditional Quality Assurance (QA). Jeff opens up about years spent wrestling with the role of QA in Agile/CD environments and shares experiments with “test-infected” developers—who took full ownership of quality. He reflects on the pitfalls of relying on “heavyweight” traditional QA processes and automated tests, which often create lean waste, add handoffs, and introduce brittle, flakey tests. Can you make an outdated car more modern? I’ve started reading Gregor Hohpe ‘s Platform Strategy book (https://lnkd.in/gZJ2YRy7) and got to the part of API platforms… needless to say this area is near and dear to my heart and I have a lot to say 😉 Quick thought: I think about these “API platforms” referred to in the book (p80)... That the full-stack vendor API platform products are not adequate for the very internal developer platforms that orgs wish to build to improve developer productivity. In fact the vendors used to illustrate the API platforms are exactly outdated. Now you might go through the product brochure of these vendors and see a lot of shiny things in there, and buzzwords used to dilute the value of the real thing, but these bolt on, cloud/modernization washing is not akin to the real thing. And to use a car example for Gregor… taking an 1985 Buick Century and washing, it, shining it, and adding a cassette adapter to play music from our phones does not make it a modern car. Fine tuning an LLM (Large Language Model) means adapting it to specific data and tasks with the goal of improving performance on those and similar tasks. In a new blog post, my colleagues describe a set of best practices for fine-tuning Anthropic Claude 3 Haiku on Amazon Bedrock: 1 - Choose a suitable use case per the guidelines in the post. 2 - Gather a clean, high-quality data set and structure it for efficient training, with an optional system prompt. 3 - Customize and run the fine-tuning job. 4 - Assess the fine-tuned model's performance against relevant metrics and against the base model. 5 - Iterate and deploy. AWS sunsetting App Mesh in favor of a deeply integrated ECS option is yet another clue that we screwed up the packaging for service mesh. We wasted too much time arguing over which sidecar was better or how to federate Kubernetes. We should have realized that a service mesh is just a technical detail - important, but only one of many components we've learned through trial and error that we need to build distributed applications (with or without microservices).
