One question that came up repeatedly with customers during #sapinsider2024 Las Vegas was "What will SAP Basis Administrators do after a move to RISE?" At the conference, I pointed at higher value activities teams could do. I've been thinking about this ever since. In this article I suggest that just how cyber security grew out of system administration, SAP Basis administration can mature into an SAP security practice. We shared our Q2 earnings results and are continuing to deliver 🚀. Our growth momentum remained strong in Q2 as more and more customers move to the cloud and our #BusinessAI capabilities continue to expand. We are executing on our transformation with great discipline, leading us to increase our operating profit ambition for 2025. Being one of the IT leaders who is in charge to transform SAP internally with AI, data and technology capabilities, here are a few thoughts on the adoption of AI in our own businesses and how to approach it in a relevant, reliable and responsible manner: 1️⃣ We have defined a reasonable internal strategy and pathway to leverage #BusinessAI and supplementing AI infused partner solutions across SAP's business processes and enterprise architecture. 2️⃣ We steer it consistent to our values and put the business outcome in the middle of our conversations. A business-driven value management approach to assess, steer and harvest the expected outcomes included. 3️⃣ We consider business value first, however we spent significant time and effort on non-functional requirements towards #GenAI to provide robust, scalable, secure and compliant AI and data platforms and services to our SAP product teams and all our employees. 4️⃣ Building trust and understanding around AI is a crucial challenge to solve, hence we take our SAP employees on this journey with tailored learning opportunities, regardless of their level of technological proficiency. 5️⃣ We offer early access to latest AI technologies in a secure and compliant AI experimentation and exploration environment - to try out how #prompting can positively influence the personal productivity in daily routines. It is all about encouraging a transparent dialogue about AI and its opportunities while same time acknowledging fast paced technology innovations bring risks and challenges to tackle. We are not in a sprint, but an industry-changing and evolving transformation by significant technology advancements, we haven't fully imagined 12-18 months back. Super excited to be a part of it! I just wrapped up an awesome North America SAP Partner Advisory Council…an incredible event! Why was it incredible? 👩👩 Leadership - SAP Partner Leadership (Nanette Lazina ,Annie Busch,+ many others) understanding, investing and advocating in our ecosystem. Not losing focus, we are all about the customer. What an energizing start to the week! 🚀 Monday kicked off the first-ever #PeopleDevelopmentWeek at SAP – a week dedicated for our employees to explore career development opportunities, enhance their product knowledge and gain a better understanding of the overall business. I had the opportunity to engage with employees across SAP to gain a deeper understanding of SAP’s strategy and its execution. We delved into the importance of understanding our strategy and how we are adapting it to overcome operational challenges. One key takeaway from the session: What makes a good strategy? In addition to the “why”, “what” and “how” of a corporate strategy, we also talked about the “who”: #people are at the heart of SAP and key to our success. With so many dedicated colleagues driving this transformation, we are determined to achieve our goal of becoming the #1 Enterprise Application and Business AI company! A huge thank you to Gina Vargiu-Breuer and her team for organizing our first People Development Week and to all SAP colleagues for your dedication. Let's keep pushing boundaries! Maximize the Potential of Artificial Intelligence for Installed Base Customers AI is in everyone's head and of course customers would like to benefit from it as well in grown landscapes. Key to success is (very obviously and not surprisingly) standardization: to take full advantage of #AI, companies should standardize their systems as much as possible. A "clean core" facilitates the integration and use of AI solutions. The closer your system is to the standard, the better you can use the existing AI functions. But, how to get there and where to find help from SAP?   New implementation and transformation: With a new implementation, you have the option of keeping your system "clean" from the outset. For existing systems, it is important to become as clean as possible in order to maximize connectivity and the use of AI. But not always customers have the ability, willingness and business support for a new implementation. So, how to effectively clean a system that is coming from a system conversion. Here #RISE with SAP can come into the picture. With the migration and modernization offerings of RISE with SAP we take customers by the hand and lead them actively through the steps to come to a clean core, no matter if coming in with an old ECC system or already with an S/4HANA system. How? With the clean core dashboard, customers get a KPI driven insight on where they are with regards to clean core. With the Enterprise architecture support, we help them to navigate into a clean and lean system setup. Cloud ALM and the connected quality gates for the implementation identify the important milestones on the way to the clean and lean implementation. Last but not least, the new #Joule Consultant "knows all answers" and the AI supported code generation will help to reduce old, non-conform custom code. In addition, our valued Partners have the opportunity to benefit significantly. If a lot of custom code is available, partners can help to define, develop or adapt data models. This ensures that business AI expertise is used effectively.   At the #SAPPHIRE conference, SAP showed how important it is to take system transformation seriously. The possibilities offered by AI are immense, but to fully exploit them, systems need to be kept as standardized and clean as possible.

*** Hasso & me. About a short conversation with Hasso Plattner *** At today's SAP Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, co-founder Hasso Plattner stepped down as chairman and retired from an active role in the company after over five decades. This marks a monumental shift in SAP's history, with Plattner's influence on the company's growth and success being comparable to that of Larry Ellison at Oracle and Steve Jobs at Apple. During my 12 years at SAP, primarily in Consulting and Customer Advisory, my personal interactions with Hasso Plattner were naturally very limited compared to those of colleagues in development. Nonetheless, my brief encounters with him left a lasting impact on my professional life and approach to work: Over a decade ago, I was the program manager for one of the first large enterprise implementations of the then infant-HANA, a project with a high-profile DAX client as pilot customer. Given the project's importance, I had to report the status occasionally directly to then-SAP board member Bernd Leukert. The project had a bumpy start, with technical issues and teething problems typical of such revolutionary new technology. One day, while driving on the autobahn (at unreasonable speed), I received a call from an unknown Walldorf number. To my astonishment, it was one of Hasso Plattner's assistants, who informed me that Hasso was on the line and wanted to speak with me. Striving to maintain control of the car from the surprise and safely move to the right lane at a reduced speed, I took the call. Hasso greeted me friendly and asked for a brief status update on the implementation of "his HANA". I provided an impromptu report, outlining the current status, issues, and the measures we were taking to resolve them. He listened intently, asked precise and insightful questions, and never made me feel inferior or pressured despite every word spoken oozing natural authority and his larger than life personality. His technical brilliance, hands-on approach, and genuine interest in the project's details and the individual customer experience were evident and beyond impressive. He approved the measures, thanked me and left the call. For me, this very brief but impactful interaction demonstrated Hasso Plattner's intellectual rigor, technical vision, and his dedication to SAP's success. This particular conversation left a lasting impression on me. It offered a glimpse into the personality of a man instrumental in developing enterprise applications that drive global business and shaping SAP into a €32 billion revenue company. Because he cared. For the details. Hasso Plattner's retirement marks the end of an era, but his legacy and personality will continue to guide SAP into the future. P.S: The implementation was (of course) a success 😉 😎 and turned my personal career towards HANA and SAP S/4HANA. #sap
