Stop obsessing over launch tiers and focus on launch cadence. I've interviewed a lot of product marketers lately, many of them great. But my eyes always glaze over when I ask about their approach to product launches and they whip out a spreadsheet or walk me through their "framework" for prioritizing launches based on a tiered approach. This isn't necessarily wrong, it's just not going to differentiate you from other PMM candidates. And it's not going to help you wield influence and drive impact within your company if you do get the job. One of the most impactful things you CAN do is put a stake in the ground around launch cadence. At LivePerson, for example, we've committed to doing two major product launches per year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. We call our launch events Spark – and they're as much about sparking action internally as they are about bringing our new products and capabilities to market. A semi-annual launch cadence acts as a forcing function and rallying point for the entire organization. It drives urgency and accountability around everything from product development and adoption to sales enablement and operations to customer marketing and success. The Spark model also encourages a strategic storytelling approach to GTM. Instead of launching capabilities as one-offs (informed by product availability and those silly "tiers"), a predictable launch cadence allows us to think thematically and focus on outcomes rather than inputs, solutions rather than specs. Our Fall launch, for instance, will hone in on the Assist phase of our Conversational Flywheel which is all about the agent experience and how brands can spark a better CX by empowering their people with AI and other agent-centric technology. We'll be launching some transformative new products and some smaller stuff that will make agents happier and more efficient but that might have gotten lost in a tier-based launch framework. If you’ve ever felt the pressure to “launch” before the product is ready, you appreciate this post from Coda. They just announced Coda Brain, the second step in their new partnership with Snowflake. What I like about this blog post is that it clearly communicates the “vision” for their new product - not necessarily that these are the exact features. Any time a company is in trouble you’ll have people competing for power. And many of those people will swear up and down that the problem is simple and they have the answer. Lesson? If you’re advocating for a more inclusive, complexity-informed approach you’ll be up against people with influence (and likely past successes) actively working to undermine you. Change isn’t hard. The battle for who gets the credit and who retains power is hard.

Today is a big day for Motivosity! We officially launched our new add-on product, Spaces. And it. is. amazing. When I started at Motivosity a year ago, the product team showed me their vision for Spaces and I immediately felt how right it was. That has only been proven to me over and over again as I've talked to our customers about a) why they love Motivosity and b) what their greatest needs are. Without fail, every single customer I've talked to has told me about their growing need to unite and connect employees—because their companies are now more remote, hybrid, or spread out than ever. It's never been more difficult to help every employee feel connected to their peers or to the company culture at large. Motivosity's recognition solution helps a lot with this, but Spaces takes it to the next level, giving employees one place to go for everything culture related, including internal communication. One of the customers I spoke with recently told me, "When I first saw Spaces, I thought, this is where our remote culture will live." And that's exactly what is happening. Motivosity is the people-first recognition and rewards platform for TODAY'S workforce. And we'll keep building and innovating!

Here’s a simple way to think about where you spend time as a PMM: How do your outputs align with these categories? 1) Growth: Awareness, Acquisition, Activation 2) Engagement: Usage, Retention, Advocacy 3) Monetization: Pricing, Packaging, Cross-Sell, Upsell Depending on where you are in the product lifecycle, your efforts will lean more toward one category than another. Clarifying where your work fits makes it easier to demonstrate your impact. #productmarketing

"But they are only at a small startup." "Their company only has 20 people in it." These are all things I've heard folks are saying when assessing others. An executive or team member at a bigger company is no better or more skilled than one at a smaller company. Just different. You cannot compare the two. As someone who's worked in companies as large as $40b+ and as small as $2m, I've seen both ends of the spectrum. And I'm here to tell you that, most of the time, the smaller the company and team size, the harder the job. You lack resources; you have to build the systems, processes, and frameworks to make the machine go, and you have to be able to flex fast—you get the idea! I am not saying that these things can't be true at a larger organization; they can, but it's just different at a smaller organization, especially a tech startup that is living on a runway (that clock never stops ticking). And coming from someone who's now been part of nine startups, while they are hard, they are so rewarding. I love being able to feel the impact I make right away. I love being able to wear multiple hats. I love watching what I help build, grow and evolve. It's so rewarding (exhausting... but rewarding). Reminder: your product will never be equitable or accessible until it's affordable. I have an autoimmune disease, and my quality of life depends on a medication I use every 8 weeks. Without insurance, each dose of the medication cost $21,000. That's $163,500 per year. Every time I use it, I am reminded of my privilege. In #ProductEquity we talk a lot about representation, building with, and co-design. The reality is- a product can have the most sophisticated features, a seamless user experience, and align with many principles of inclusive design, but if it's out of reach for the people who need it most, it falls short of its promise. #Accessibility goes beyond disability and mismatched interactions- it's also about whether someone can access your products or services in the first place. As we innovate, let's not forget about the digital redlining that is happening right now. Yes, we need to combat bias in AI, and we also urgently need to work on building access.

Just learned that my resume wasn't as ATS-friendly as I thought, according to online testers. Looks like it’s time for a fresh start and a resume overhaul. I’ve been in B2B SaaS marketing for over a decade, but you won’t catch me calling myself an “expert.” And here’s why. I’ve worked with respected agencies like Animalz and Megawatt, leading strategies for brands like Zendesk, Webflow, Frontify, and Wistia. I’ve been fortunate to lead some great teams and tackle exciting projects. But calling myself an “expert” feels… wrong. Because to me, the word implies you’ve mastered everything there is to know, that you’ve reached the pinnacle. The reality? B2B SaaS marketing is never fully mastered—it’s in constant evolution. The moment you think you’ve nailed it, something new and disruptive changes the game. Whether it’s a new platform, a shift in buyer behavior, or an unexpected industry trend, it keeps us on our toes. I don’t know about you, but I’m in learning mode all the time. There’s always some new skill I’m trying to build. That’s why I prefer to call myself a “practitioner.” Someone who’s in the trenches every day, testing, learning, adapting. And honestly? That’s the part I love most. The thrill of not knowing it all keeps me curious, open-minded, and, I believe, better at my job. So here’s my take: Be wary of the “experts.” Trust the ones still asking questions, who own up to what they don’t know, and are committed to figuring it out right alongside you.
