All have a common denominator of being offered free of charge to youth ages 6 to 19 in specifically targeted communities. GOALS works closely with local governments, school districts, and other community entities in tailoring program services to specific needs and opportunities in given areas.
The primary focus of my work targeted the at-risk youth in Anaheim, Ca and the idea of teaching them not only the game of hockey, but how to escape a life no child deserves. These youth are tested daily amidst drugs, alcohol, gangs and violence. Through on and off ice training, as a GOALS volunteer, I reached out to youth, inviting them into the hockey rink for fun and growth within a safe environment.
