- Motivation and satisfaction are the two metrics your chief financial officer hat needs to monitor. This is to ensure that your career is giving you the things that matter most to you in the context of your life overall. In this lesson, we'll introduce you to a simple two-by-two matrix so that you can see which quadrant your CFO hat is currently operating in and what the implications are for you. The upper left quadrant is high motivation, low satisfaction. I call this busy, but unfulfilled. When you are in the upper left quadrant, your current work aligns well with your personal career aspirations overall, which is motivating. However, you may be neglecting some of your life priorities, resulting in you not feeling as satisfied as you could. Take time to pinpoint what's missing and ensure that you are comfortable with the trade-off or have a plan to address it. The lower left quadrant is low motivation, low satisfaction.
