Gaining buy-in
The lesson here is simple. You need buy-in from stakeholders before implementing solutions to the problem, no matter how pretty the roadmap is, buy-in is essential. Stakeholders need to be in line and agree with the process. It's almost like when you were a kid asking for permission to go out with your friends. You can have a ride to the location, a ride back, money in your pocket, and understanding of who will be there. et cetera. But unless your parents say yes, then there's no moving forward. So get buy-in ahead of time and make sure to gain wider buy-in from those implementing the plan. You need to work with your team to make sure your messaging outcomes and roadmap are clear. Identify stakeholders beforehand who you know are beneficial to this process, and who also would be allies toward the goal. Buy-in does not have to just be from executives.
