Here's why your product's story matters just as much as its technology. Launching a tech product is thrilling. But, I've seen too many tech founders run out of steam (and money) because they struggle with narrative. Tech alone doesn't fuel growth. It's the story behind the tech that fuels growth. What's the narrative that connects your product with your audience? Communicate Connection Over Specs. People resonate with stories, not specifications. Your product's story transforms it from a tool to an experience, from a utility to a journey. Here's a hack for technical founders - go find a 6 year old and explain to them why your technology matters. It will force you to come up with a story. Pay attention to the words you use. When you see that kid "get it", go write down those words as fast as possible and use them in your next pitch. Every product has a story, a unique path that led to its creation. Showcasing contributors via X When I kickstarted microlaunch.net a month ago, my philosophy was to build the friendliest place for product makers Of course, we already have ProductHunt and many alternatives. Yet, a 101 ingredient is missing: genuine feedback Gathering feedback isn't a hard task. An unbiased one is almost impossible. After deploying the MVP in 1 month, I realized we had to give credit to our contributors. Introducing the new contributor showcase feature, because these folks dedicate their time and effort to give us honest feedback. Contributors should be paid in my opinion. The biggest mistakes I see first time founders make when building their MVP? Trying to include every last feature. They become too attached to their idea of what the end product looks like and how it works, that they struggle to let go enough to build a strong MVP. Here’s what I tell the founders I work with every time this happens: 1.) Focus only on the essential features What is the ultimate purpose of your product? What problem does it solve? That’s your core functionality. Everything else can wait. 2.) Think about what you’re testing Work with small hypotheses that you can prove / rule out / learn from. If you build everything into the MVP, it’s not an MVP anymore. And it’s harder to learn quickly and iterate. 3.) Let go of your image of ‘how it should work’ This phase is all about learning. Don’t get blinded by it being ‘your baby’ before it even exists. User testing will tell you more about how your product ‘should’ work than anything else. What did I miss? #founders #mvp #nocode
