Africa- The future is ours to design. The future of AI in Africa isn't just about adopting cutting-edge technology—it's about shaping it to fit our unique contexts. There is a critical need for Africa to address algorithm bias—the kind that stems from AI systems trained on foreign datasets, systems that may not understand our diverse cultures and realities. As we innovate locally, our dependence on foreign infrastructure and backend technologies remains a challenge. The majority of the tech infrastructure we rely on isn’t even hosted on African soil. This creates vulnerabilities and questions around data sovereignty. Moments just before attending #DRIF24 session on “Navigating the impact of AI on social justice in East and Southern Africa”AI has been described as one of the most important technologies, if harnessed, to drive Africa’s development. However, it is important that we identify the societal risks associated with AI and its impact on communities across Africa. In this session, a cohort of researchers, supported by Mozilla Africa Mradi Innovation program and drawn from across Eastern and Southern Africa,shared and discussed findings of a research series that explored the intersection of AI, human rights, and #genderjustice in the two regions. The research series had a special focus on marginal geographic and under served communities. The experiences findings and recommendations that were shared aim to inform: ● Priority areas for civil society actors, community and digital rights activists looking to develop interventions to address harms of emerging technologies like #AI. ● Funding opportunities for #funding organizations that are looking to support or build strategies AI for development, responsible builders and innovators.

Afrobeat & AI: Week 1 Project at ALX Africa This week at ALX Africa, we got our hands dirty with the exciting intersection of music and AI! Our challenge? Craft a song using different AI models to depict a vision of Africa's young people collaborating with AI to transform the continent. Now, I'm not talking about robots making beats, We explored the power of Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Llama to generate lyrics that capture the spirit of young Africans embracing technology and shaping a brighter future. Here's the twist: I envisioned a short song from the perspective of a young African tech whiz. They're passionate about the potential of AI to change the game, not just for Africa, but for the entire world. This song aims to inspire others to see AI not as something to fear, but as a powerful tool to build the future we dream of. While composing the lyrics, I didn't dive much into coding specifics. Instead, the focus is on the power of innovation, collaboration, and a generation ready to lead the charge. Think Afrobeat rhythms mixed with a hip-hop vibe, perfect for getting the message across to a young audience. This project is just the beginning of my journey at ALX Africa. Stay tuned as I dive deeper into the exciting world of AI and explore how it can empower Africa's youth to create a truly remarkable future!
